People don’t like short races unless they have a strong gimmick, like with vulpera being disney anthropomorphs. Note that goblins aren’t much better off than dwarves or dark irons with a mere 2% global population.
Personally I think both forms of dwarves are great and wish that Wildhammers could’ve been their own allied race too.

Dark irons are awesome.
Easily one of the best races in the game.

For those that only play their main, its probably not going to be the race of choice.
That didn’t seem to be too much of a deterrent for Zandalari, which are just barely behind Forsaken in population. Void Elves are doing well too. Both have higher populations than several core races do.

I was horde during BFA, as such, I do not have any of the alliance races unlocked. While I have moved to alliance, I am not going to do the grind to unlock said races. That is, for the most part, why I do not play the dark iron dwarves.
Dwarves are my favorite (dwarf rogue is my most played character), and I switched to Dark Iron back when I played in BFA. That was on a new account, so my old vanilla account I’m on now hasn’t played in BFA, or else I’d be one right now.
I plan on playing a druid in Dragonflight, so I sadly won’t be a dark iron anymore.
This is a valid point but on the other hand, what they do have is awesome.
I can’t think of another race that has better hair styles.
I collect characters of every race, but that fact means my play time gets split pretty thinly amongst them. Add to that to fact that my original characters have seniority based on the fact that they are my “profession mains” (which looks like it will be an even bigger deal in Dragonflight)
My poor dark iron dwarf just doesn’t get taken out into the world a lot.
Mechagnome druid travel form = tonk.
Mechagnome druid flight form = mini roflcopter.
Mechagnome druid aquatic form = one gnome sub.
I don’t have them unlocked! I refuse to unlock the Racial is all. I do want to play one but…yea… Tired of chores to get something we should already have.
Less alliance, more that are there play elfs.
I dislike smaller races and DI don’t really give me anything I like in races. Their run annoys me, their customizations are not that vast and nothing I like about it except a few small things.
A dwarf druid of some form has been on my wishlist for a while. Lorewise Wildhammer druids make the most sense but maybe there’s some clever story excuse that could allow for Dark Iron druids, which could be pretty metal.
Actually I think Blizzard could have a lot of fun making druid mechagnomes. They wouldn’t be in tune with nature, they could just “build their forms”. Like an actual mechanical tank bot for bear form. A bandage dispenser bot for resto. etc… The lore wouldn’t be they are tied to the emerald dream, just that they created forms to enhance their ability to fight foes and heal friends.

Then you’d have Ironforge dwarf racials on a Dark Iron. Boring and no racial fantasy.
As bad as having Darkfallen customisation for Elves instead of a unique race. Basically just cosplaying.
Dark Iron unpopularity among Alliance players is likely due to the fact that they were a main antagonist against the Alliance for so many years.
They are also canonically a bad guy villain group and the Dark Iron is alliance. Alliance bros just want to be elfs and paladins and i think the OG dwarves are comfy so don’t reroll. Dwarves in general attract stable loyal folk. Where as Dark Iron are vengeful and merciless. If more alliance whent darkside of the force and embraced the mercenary mindset they’d play Dark Iron some.
Most want to be cute elfs and whatnot tho.
I actually tried leveling a Dark Iron shaman and got to 60, I just switched back to space goat tho. Because I really am in love with the whole lightforged thing. Plus lightforged racial I really like leveling and grinding world content with a bursty AoE that will finish a big pack I just pulled. Plus it’s a space Lazer.
TLDR, alliance won’t admit they evil and Dark Iron are the evil working for the alliance now. Plus the Dark Iron backstory is actually really good, cool. If I was still a earth sign alighned, grounded rage induced kinda gogogogogogopvp fire type. I’d definitely be Dark Iron.
It’s a good race. I like em. Just im a dork and too soft to be a dorf at heart.

I absolutely love Dark Iron Dwarves since they add a bit of edge to the Alliance. They’re also the coolest looking as bald women imo

I think my shaman race backup would be DI dwarf though. I actually quite like their customization options (as limited as they are).
Both male and female models look great to me, which is rare in WoW.
