How do optional skin colors ruin anything? The void options are still there; you people just want to impose your own views and preferences on others
The Problem couldâve been solved long ago if the Allied Race were the High Elves . Enough Lore behind . Maybe Blizz should add them too .
Anyway I like the Void Elves and I like the opportunity to be a High elf or Void elf . đ©”đ
I love Alleria Windrunner !
Those hairstyles are the worst, yeah. Who came up with that and thought, âYep, thatâs a great idea.â I mean, the female hairstyles are somewhat okay, but the male hairstyles? Good grief⊠Not to mention that they left them with holes xD
VE are the most played Allied Race, soâŠ
âi donât like it so you canât like itâ
Pretty sure the 'Lore" is What ever the hell the devs say it is.
Easy: people wanted Helfs since vanilla and we got this massive stip on our faces.
Bonus, Legion was also a great time to add the Broken to the alliance (even with void juice in them) but NOPE, blue Belfs!.
The sad part is that i like the idea of a void maniac race.
They literally make the game and came up with every single bit of lore that has ever existed for the game so⊠Yes?
Doesnât mean we donât have a lack of lore overall though. Weâre not even entirely sure how new void elves are even made. Though we can assume a few potential routes from what we see around the Rift.
They better give us High Elves in Midnight.
Just going to copy/paste what Iâve said in another thread.
I canât speak for anyone but myself, but no, I do not like the Void Elves. Everything about them is low effort and low quality, and too much about them is easily read as spite on the part of the Devs towards a portion of the community. One could go so far as to even misinterpret it as factional bias.
Their Origins:
Summary
There was no seeding at all for this race in the lore.
Nothing ever hinted at the existence of a group of Blood Elves studying the Void. Nothing ever suggested such a group was banned from QuelâThalas. Even Alleria herself is so unalike the Void Elves that she doesnât even feel like one, meaning her own existence in the narrative doesnât feel like any kind of foreshadowing as to an entire race coming into existence.
The race was such a low effort addition to the game that they didnât even actually exist until the last five minutes of their own recruitment questline. Also⊠Magister Umbric? Like, damn⊠step back Velen, Zul, you guys have got NOTHING on that guyâs parents where prophecy is concerned. Even the name for this race screams meme; Renâdorei, like Kylo Ren from the new Star Wars movies (as if this race didnât need that albatross hanging over itâs head as well).
Their Narrative:
Summary
So, youâd think the Void Elves, at the very least, would make the Void interesting and unique in how they use it, right? Sorry to disappoint you, but everything the Void Elves do is stuff mages have been doing for ages already, just flavored purple. Its not until a novel that we get something remotely unique (Alleria using the void to extract information directly from the minds of others), but youâll never see that in game.
The Void Elvesâ narrative existence is to fight the Horde, apparently. Throughout the Fourth War, Alliance players see them using the void to commit atrocities with the excuse of, âbut it could be much worse,â while Horde players just watch them straight up losing their minds and void bombing orphanages full of puppies because reasons. Itâs as if they exist to give Horde players a race to kill on the Alliance guilt free after the Horde started ANOTHER WAR. I mean, the Void Elves arenât just messing with taboo power, theyâre also TRAITORS!
Meanwhile every void-related storyline in the expansion is one in which the Void Elves are not present.
-
Thereâs an artificial Old God in Uldir about to break loose and make it the worldâs problem. Why, surely this is something the Void Elves would be able to innately sense, something theyâd bring to the attention of the Alli- nope. It was Brann Bronzebeard. Because why wouldnât it be?
-
The player-character gets an eyeball slapped on their forehead thatâs constantly whispering at them, and would like it removed. Surely our race of Void Experts will be able to help remov- nope. But the human shaman sure can.
-
The Alliance fleet has been dragged to the ocean floor by Azshara. Thereâs an entire subzone filled with naga void mages, with their tomes laying around, the place so lousy with mind squids that you canât take a step without trodding on one of their eggs. Over on the Horde the Blood Elves and Nightborne are getting some real bonding time. Surely this is a chance for the Void Elves to not only delve into the power of the Void, researching the nagaâs methods to protect their Night Elven allies against it and thus proving their worth, but also a chance for the Allianceâs two elven factions to finally get some development that explains why the Night Elves would even give these eldritch abominations the time of day and- NOPE. The only Void Elves here are in generic Stormwind Plate as faceless, nameless guard NPCs.
-
Ebonhorn is struggling against the whispers of the Old Gods and is going to succumb to their corruption if aid cannot be rendered! Surely now, NOW of all times, the Void Elves will act. They struggle against the whispers on a daily basis. Their experience, knowledge, and techniques, must be absolutely vital to developing a safeguard for Ebonhorn- nope. There was a cure all along in Karazhan. Because why wouldnât it be in Karazhan? Oh well, at least the Void Elves can chug that potion to also- wait, they donât even seem to be aware of it? Oh, okay⊠guess theyâll keep suffering the whispers, even though thereâs an actual cure for thatâŠ
-
NâZoth has risen, the world is wracked by Visions of destruction, the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and Uldum are being assaulted by the minions of the Old Gods. Surely now⊠NOW is the time the Void Elves rise up, to fight the void with the void, to prove themselves worthy allies, to show that their name MEANS something! Hahaha⊠no. Theyâre completely absent. Well, except as trash mobs in the Horrific Visions of Stormwind scenario.
Their Appearance:
Summary
Theyâre Blood Elves, with icy blue, purple, and grey skin tones to look like corpses. They get blue and purple hair (not even natural white or black at first, like, really?), and some of their hairstyles have glowing tentacles in them. Tada, Void Elves.
Like, really? Low effort doesnât even begin to describe it. They look more like teenage half-night elf, half-draenei, rather than a race of void modified elves. Whereâs the third eye? Whereâs the maws for shoulders? Whereâs the tentacle arms? Give us SOMETHING! Let us customize their void forms separately, going for something closer to what Alleria looks like than this obnoxious blue spray paint. How about some scars that glow with the void? Or tattoos? War paint? SOMETHING!
Their Heritage Armor:
Summary
This garbage looks like it was ripped off the corpse of a Dreadlord and then dipped into a pool of void-flavored koolaid. The wings are an interesting effect for sure, but why is it tied to the armor, and not something Void Elves could just customize for the character themselves? Wings, the swirling void walker effect, etc⊠that wouldâve been cool.
Their heritage armor doesnât even look remotely elven. There isnât even a robe variant of it. Again, this feels like meme territory. THEYâVE GOT MAGNETOâS HELMET IN PURPLE! WERE YOU EVEN TRYING, BLIZZARD?! This looks like Dreadlord armor you could get off the Trading Post today!
Their Home:
Summary
A slapdash mess of re-used Legion assets put together so haphazardly that Blizzard has to invisible wall off portions of it so players donât fall through to their deaths. I suppose I should be grateful they got something at all, but I think Iâd have actually preferred nothing. The only saving grace Telogrus Rift has is that itâs not on Azeroth, meaning itâs the perfect place for them to exist and study without endangering anyone, but then youâve got the only named Void Elves talking about bringing QuelâThalas back into the Alliance rather than embracing a convenient new home.
Whatâs even the point of the Telogrus Rift when apparently even the Void Elves donât want it?!
Their Racials:
Summary
So, the passives are pretty okay. Transmog cost reduction is a bit odd. âEthereal Connection?â Didnât we establish on Argus and in Outland that most ethereals HATE the void with a burning passion? Like, why would ethereals be giving the Void Elves discounts, rather than ripping them off out of spite for studying the power that destroyed their homeworld, and turned them into space mummies?
Iâve never used the teleport racial. A bit too clunky for my taste. Iâve been told itâs great in PvP, but I donât PvP.
Then we get to Entropic Embrace, the frosting on the fecal cake of Void Elves. This obnoxious racial triggers every ten seconds, applying a blueberry coating to oneâs character, whether they want it or not. Rather than having their void form be something the Void Elves toggle on or off the way Alleria does, thus proving their mastery of the void, itâs instead something uncontrollable, making it seem like the Void Elves have NO skill at all in wielding the void. This racial was designed to contradict their identity as masters of the void. Itâs also ugly as sin and nothing whatsoever like Alleriaâs amazing void form.
Their Effect on Other Racesâ Lore:
Summary
Iâm talking Blood Elves, and to a lesser degree, Night Elves.
First, letâs look at the Blood Elves. Congratulations to all the Blood Elf shadow priest players out there, looks like youâre no longer canon! Yeah, this race did that, because for SOME REASON Void Elves just HAD to come from some never before heard of faction of Blood Elves. I mean, this travesty of a race couldâve come from anything. Alleriaâs forces from the Second War couldâve been transformed in Outland somewhere, having already established for themselves a culture and an identity or something. That wouldâve been cool. Or hell, Alleria couldâve borrowed the Silver Covenant for a weekend to go investigate⊠I donât know. Pick a void hotspot on Azeroth, itâs not like weâre hurting for them.
But no. Void Elves had to come from Blood Elves, as if the Devs themselves in one final act of spite were going, âYou Alliance players keep asking for High Elves. You want to play Blood Elves so bad? Fine! Weâll make them blue to match your faction, LOL!â So now Blood Elf shadow priests and even their warlocks are cast into canonical doubt to an extent. Not only that, but the Blood Elves are made to look stupid. They exiled the High Elves and pulled a surprised Pikachu meme when the High Elves were hostile towards them. Iâm guessing they thought exiling Umbric and his followers would be different because Lorâthemar apparently shares a brain cell between himself, Liadrin, and Halduron (since all three are never on screen at the same time), and it just wasnât Lorâthemarâs day to have the brain cell.
Worst of all? The Blood Elvesâ original identity as pragmatists doing what was needed to survive, of tapping into powers profane and taboo to get an edge, was excised completely from them in this act. Now theyâre just the Holy Elves, while all that identity that made the Blood Elves so amazing to begin with was surgically transplanted over to the Alliance. What even is the Blood Elvesâ culture anymore? I wouldnât go so far as to say the Void Elves even have a culture, but their existence just invalidated what the Blood Elves had been clinging to since the Sunwell was restored.
Then we have the Night Elves, a race so suspicious of the Thalassian Elves they, for some inexplicable reason, sent an army halfway across the world to spy on them while their own sacred forests on Kalimdor were burning in Felfire from infestations of demons, satyr, orcs, naga, and corrupt furbolgs. The same Night Elves whom didnât want the High Elves anywhere near their Kalimdor. Yes, these Night Elves apparently had nothing to say whatsoever about former Blood Elves inundated in the corrupting power of the Void becoming their allies. You even had Void Elves walking through the streets of Darnassus like tourists without a peep out of the Night Elves.
The worst incarnation of everything they hate about Thalassian Elves joined the Alliance and the Night Elves just shrug? Weâre talking about elves wielding the same kind of powers AZSHARA HERSELF MESSES WITH TODAY! AND THE NIGHT ELVES ARE FINE WITH THIS?!
Iâd get MAYBE some good will might have been earned if, say, the Void Elves had helped evacuate Teldrassil while it was on fire using Void Rifts, but no, we had to conveniently forget that, the Vindicaar, etc⊠existed so the Night Elves could suffer genocide. The first time we see Night Elves and Void Elves interacting (and the last time as far as Iâm aware) is Shandris and Umbric teaming up on a mission in Zandalar. Sheâs about as passive then as she was with Voss in the recent Emerald Dream patch. Maybe Shandris is just a very chill Night Elf, I donât know.
It STILL doesnât feel like the Void Elves have done anything to explain why the Night Elves arenât actively trying to wipe them off the face of Azeroth, let alone tolerate them anywhere near their settlements.
I could honestly keep going on why I hate the Void Elves as a race. I think the most damning thing of all is that this race had potential. It COULD have been amazing, it COULD have worked passed the flaws of itâs trash introduction, it COULD have provided a catalyst for change and thought-provoking stories, even internal struggle in the Alliance that would have felt entirely organicâŠ
But it didnât.
If this is what Blizzard always intended with the Void Elves, then they shouldâve just added the High Elves and been done with it. At least weâve had them in the Allianceâs narrative throughout WoWâs lifetime, so the complete and utter lack of development or use outside of fighting the Horde wouldâve been fine. High Elves wouldnât have needed as much.
Void Elves need multiple books and expansions to bring them up to par, and weâre WAY past the point this needed to happen.
I think with TWW, assuming they focus on not just Alleria but also the void elves along with her, we can begin to see these things fixed up a bit.
Iâm also immensely curious to see where we go as we move towards Midnight.
There is a lot on the horizon that I feel is worth trying at least to be optimistic.
Alleria is NOT helping my trepidation at all with TWW.
For one thing, Xalâatath looks WAY MORE like the leader of the Void Elves than either Alleria or Umbric do.
Compare that to Alleriaâs make-over. Whatâs going on with that? Why so much white? Given that one of the trailers had her in Dalaran, I kind of have to ask⊠is she joining the Silver Covenant? That outfit of hers looks like itâd actually fit their aesthetic. If thatâs the case, it just feels even more like theyâre abandoning the concept of the Void Elves.
I donât have any hope for Void Elves in Midnight either. Blizzard couldnât be bothered to involve them in anything void related in the expansion that actually introduced them (BFA). If we see Void Elves in Midnight, I expect theyâll be the bad guys actively corrupting QuelâThalas because en mass they succumbed to the whispers, with only the PC and Alleria managing to avoid that (and even Alleria coming out of this in tact is uncertain).
Since youâre using a void elf and have such a large forum post count on said Void Elf i stopped reading at that part.
Thanks for letting me know. I wouldâve stopped reading at just how long that post was, but Iâm lazy.
I agree on many points. Especially when compared to their counterparts, the Nightborne, Void Elves seem like something the devs pulled out of their sleeves at the last minute.
No improved model like the Nightborne, no zone with quests that would explain their lore (especially when inventing a completely ânewâ race). Suramar, in contrast to the few sparse tents, is quite a poor joke, and somehow, the race has been rather forgotten to this day. Considering that all the other Legion races have received numerous adjustments, Void Elves still stand with their meager initial options, plus a few copy&paste hair colors and skin tonesâŠ
In general, I maintain the opinion that allied races are nonsensical and come off as rather cheap. Except for Vulpera, they should have been just customization options.
On their own, thereâs nothing wrong with the Void Elves.
Unfortunately, they (along with the LF Draenei) were shoe-horned in as an Allied Race whereas the Horde got the more established and recognisable HM Tauren and Nightborne from Legion.
Pity.
The changes to her hair showing the void working itâs way in more, the void gems in her armor. I rather like this new Alleria so far.
Xalâatath isnât even mortal much less an elf. Weâre not just an aesthetic. Though I am curious to see where this is all going. Her armor using the same colors as our heritage does make me giddy to find out where this is all going!
Iâm not afraid of a little dissent among our number.
I doubt that theyâre abandoning us at all. Otherwise theyâd not gone so far out of their way to include Void Elves throughout the Dragon Isles. Weâre just not the star of the Dragon story.
More so, while Iâm not super thrilled with the idea of working with the Silver Covenant as I find them to be genociding criminals as of the Purge, it makes a lot of sense for Alleria to seek out some sort of alliance between Void Elves and the Silver Covenant. Iâd even wager a lot of the Void Elves would join happily.
But literally Alleria and Vereesa are sisters. Theyâre going to continue to work together. And honestly if Blizzard wants to update our look to a more silver, light blue, void gem look with black backgrounds? Iâm for that. A lot easier to mog.
Still its not a write out for those two peoples to come together.
Thats unlikely though I wouldnât be surprised if some do. Iâm more interested to see if Alleria will consume Xalâatath, becoming fully void elfy, or if Xalâatath will turn out to prove that shes on our side some way.
Its going to be a neat new future. So many possibilities!
Given Alleriaâs presence in the war within feature trailer, and the heavy focus on the void and with midnight having a lot of focus on the thalassian elves, Iâm hoping they finally get a bit of lore love. I think void elves are awesome⊠potentially. They just need to give them actual stories and stuff to do!
Hell, what have they been doing all these years? There was a time skip. Are we ever going to see some actual building in telogrus? Have they developed more of their own culture? Have the whispers actually started to influence them a bit? Like i said, they have potential.
Are we looking at the same picture?
Her hair looks the same as ever, except maybe styled differently. The feathers in it might be a different color, but nothing particularly void-themed. Maybe the concept art just doesnât convey it as well? Usually itâs the reverse. The gems in her armor donât exactly look like the stuff in Void Elf âheritageâ armor either.
The more I look at this picture, the more I see, âAlleria of the Silver Covenant.â
There doesnât seem to be anything to support Void Elves being in the Silver Covenant at this time, is the problem. As you noted, weâve seen Void Elf NPCs scattered about the Dragon Isles as window dressing, but I looked carefully and never saw any in the Azure Span among the Kirin Tor. Considering Dalaran is the Silver Covenantâs home, if Void Elves are not welcome in the Kirin Tor, I donât see how theyâd get into the Silver Covenant.
Seems weird that Blizzard specific excluded Void Elves from Kirin Tor NPCs, almost as if it was intentional. Heck, we even saw Zandalari and Vulpera in the Kirin Tor in the Azure Span.
No offense, but yeah, Void Elves are more or less an aesthetic, a very cheap aesthetic called, âpurple.â
To be clear, Iâm not saying you cannot like them, that you cannot take joy in them, that you cannot be satisfied with them as they are now. I am stating my opinion, that this, ârace,â is an utter travesty and we as players deserve better, and we deserved it in the expansion they joined, rather than hijacking the first expansion that should be 99% about the Blood Elves, since THEY were introduced.
Iâd put money on Xalâatath being a raid boss at some point during these three expansions, and Alleria looking roughly the same as ever, unless she also becomes a raid boss.
I envy you. I canât see anything but misery in the future.
The only thing I find objectionable about them is their embarrassing lack of customization options. This kind of applies to all Allied Races.
