Why all the hostility?

You’re wrong.

Being civil has nothing to do with being right or wrong. It’s a simple matter of agreeing to disagree and talk about them in a constructive manner. It is possible to have those kinds of debates.

I mean. I agreed that it being the main point at BlizzCon was poorly planned. I don’t think its “out of touch” so much as “they should have planned better”.

I think they are well aware more people wanted Diablo 4 information than anything. They apparently had something lined up, and cancelled it at the last moment (per reports…rumors…whatever). Why? I don’t know.

I think they should have done what Elder Scrolls did. They released a teaser video. Showed basically nothing at all. A panned view over a landscape and “Elder Scrolls VI” And people went crazy. For literally nothing than “hey, we are working on this thing that might eventually be ready in a few years”.

Whats the point of this thread again?

I do like how Bethesda announced Elder Scrolls 6.

The forums tend to follow the same rules as reviews do. It’s a bastion for people to either vent how much they don’t like something or tout how great something is. You tend to only see the vocal minorities. It becomes much worse when these two groups mingle and have a “conversation”.

I most likely wouldn’t have had a big diablo event to announce it. Even though they repeatedly said that they were not going to announce D4, to lower expectations, and that they just had some diablo news to share, people convinced themselves into thinking it was a trick to get them to lower their guard. I honestly don’t even know why there was a Blizzcon except as some kind of e-sport event that people had to pay big money to watch.

Just a curiosity statement asking why can’t we disagree without name calling.

I didn’t say it did, but there are certain things you pick up on while spending time here… one of them is that people will disagree. And not everyone handles it the same way - some are more… blunt… about it.

GD has always been hostile. Part of its charm.

I think it was fine to not announce d4. I disagree with them announcing a mobile game and nothing more to a majority pc gaming community. That’s all.

I don’t mind a mobile diablo game. I think it could be a good addition. IMO they should have held off on the announcement until they had more concrete news on Diablo 4. Judging by the reaction of the crowd, not many of them were a big fan of mobile gaming, which is ok.

But again… BlizzCon isn’t “majority pc gaming community con”, it’s a convention put on by Blizzard for all things Blizzard, not just “pc gaming”.

There is some here, not as much as the FFXIV forums but it exists. There are a few types:

  1. Internet Tough Guy - Says things that they wouldn’t have the courage to say to people in person. Needs the protection of his keyboard and monitor so they can flex their e-muscle. They seldom contribute to the topic at hand but rather say things to make themselves sound tough.

  2. Pseudo-intellectual - These guys are not interested in agreeing/disagreeing. They’re wanting to “intellectually spar” with people. They look around for someone who seems intelligent and tries to take a pot-shots at their responses, trying to goad the person into replying so they can see how many ways they can synonymously call that person stupid or make themselves appear smarter.

  3. Backseat Guy - These people never contribute anything valuable. They sit on the sidelines piggybacking off someone else’s responses with “yeah! what he said!”-esque replies and then pat themselves on the back for “one-upping” you.

  4. Fallacious - These people love using ad hominem as a response to avoid actually replying to someone’s point. They feel that you must meed their personal criteria, which constantly changes or else what you say means nothing, regardless of how right you are. They will go into your armory and find or make something up, no matter how ridiculous in order to avoid responding to a point.

  5. Devil’s Advocate Stalker - These people just cannot let a lost debate go. They’ll follow you around in any post they can, disagreeing with everything you say, just because you said it. You could say that lemons are yellow and they’ll obsess with you on how they’re off-gold and you have no clue about anything. They’ll bring things up about you that have absolutely nothing to do with the topic such as things you’ve said in other posts or sub forums you post in.

  6. The Victorious - These people feel that they win every debate they engage in, no matter what. They’re incapable of saying “You know what? You’re right”.

  7. The Vintage Fool - These people like to use old concepts that do not apply anymore, such as “disagreeing = trolling” or bringing up things that were beaten to death and no longer relevant. They still spell with numbers or use words like “rekt” or “pwned.”

  8. The Hopeless - These people post in every possible thread, trying to engage in every conversation in their proximity no matter if they have any sort of stake in the subject or not in hopes of obtaining significance. This is highlighted by their argument’s stances changing to adapt to their position. They aim to maximize their post counts.

I feel like every MMORPG forum, or game forum in general, is just extremely toxic by definition. But there are always a few people whose posts make it worthwhile.

Yes, their are mobile gamers there and that’s awesome. However, the heart of Diablo has been a pc game. As I posted above. The crowd was quite upset and there was a lot of backlash in other places as well.

There’s a solution for that. It’s called making decisions based on player fun rather than time played. Could fix a lot of problems.

I agree with this. The grind to unlock this race was brutally tedious, and given the chance to do it again, I wouldn’t do it. As a father of a four year old son, nineteen month old daughter, I really don’t have time, nor the desire to grind out the rep needed for flying.
