Why 1.12 AV is the final boss

You thought you knew what the Alterac Valley forums campaign was about? Some of you do. Most of you do not.

One word. Hubris.

We need to talk about the elephant in the room. It comes from the tension between the facades of business culture and the realism of life. Are these business leaders also ship captains? Are business leaders the only ones who are not automatons? Does management have a crystal ball?

Who knows best?

What the 1.12 AV battle royale really is, ladies and gentlemen, is a crux issue that exposes what appears to be danger to those in power. The truth. Nay, they are not all knowing, and, in fact, fallible. There is a prejudice among business leaders reminiscent of “the good old boy system.” Protect each other. Praise each other. Stay positive about the system. Well, we all know by the data how that turns out. All who stood defiant of the hubris have not yet won. We have opened up a new battleground here on the forums - one in which the victor gets to define the iconistic qualities of the vanilla WoW experience. Preserving hubris requires that anyone who exposes it directly or indirectly be ignored or silenced. This 1.12 AV fight is an indirect assault on hubris. What happens if the 1.5 AV proponents win? Hubris is exposed, and the business culture is left feeling vulnerable. Yes. It is that important to them that they win by any means. If the 1.5 AV propents win, then it means: 1. that long defended development paths were wrong; 2. people who made those decisions were wrong; and that 3. we knew better. Nothing is more scary to those who live by hubris.

Forum posters, regardless of which side of this fight you are on, do not enter this battle unaware. Dawn your armor and brandish your weapon, for THIS is the final boss.

Yet it is hubris to claim that 1.5 AV would be the better choice. Funny how that works.

What if I want to dusk my armor instead?

Have you considered using arguments based on the merits of earlier AV and not attempting to emotionally manipulate people into agreeing with you?

I feel like that might work better.

Wouldn’t you agree that by the same logic producing Classic WoW to begin with was a death blow to this hubris of modern WoW design? AV seems like a strange place to make a stand if the battle is already lost.

But the final boss is Kel’Thuzad…

I want to see guild webpages bragging about participation rate and win rate in Alterac Valley. Will that happen with 1.12 AV? How is that for rationale?

There will be a lot more winning going on in 1.12 to actually brag about.

What are they going to brag about if we get 1.5 AV and it’s just like it was back in the day? How they sat at a graveyard for 2 hours taking pot shots at the other faction?

Nobody cares about the quantity of “wins” a guild brags about if the means to achieve a victory condition lacks effort. This is why people do not respect pay-to-win content. This is why the enduring challenge of OWPvP is valued differently than binging on 10 minute scenarios with a 5 person premade. This is why hardcore PvPers give no respect to people who play OP classes in poorly balanced games yet brag about wins.

Having a high win rate while leading a guild into a beleaguering instance that simulates OWPvP is worthy of bragging rights. Most importantly, the 1.5 AV shows respect toward the original game design and its designers. They were not wrong. The players that understood the importance of early AV were not wrong. Changing the idea of AV into a semi-quick large BG devoid of OWPvP challenges was wrong and disrespectful.

Nobody will care about wins in AV 1.5 either because the majority of it wont have been done by the guild. Are you going to claim credit for work a bunch of other people did over the last 2 days? That sounds worse than the people acting like hot shots because they’re playing an OP class.

Trying to go on about respect is again just trying to elicit an emotional response from people.

The original designers themselves changed AV 1.5 1 month after it launched.

This has nothing to do with respect.

If that is what he was attempting then he epic failed.

What sort of pseudo psychological, self righteous tripe is this?

It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong, it’s an impossibility. And even if it was possible, it would change beyond what you guys want in short order anyway.

This is one of those moments where you have to decide if it’s worth it… For me, the other 99.9999% of Classic is worth missing a couple iterations of AV.

1.5AV lasted all of a month…

So good the developers themselves started changing it almost immediately.

You misrepresenting the developers and the truth is about as disrespectful as it gets.

Prolly a private server refuge, desperately craving that frankenpatch nonsense you’ve grown addicted to.

This 100%. Gratitude and excitement are all a Classic advocate should be feeling.
If an AV version deters you, you weren’t interested to begin with.

@op - And we’re all super bummed your exploitable cesspool of a private server is shutting down soon. /soothe

FACT: AV was initially planned as OWPvP content.
FACT: AV was instanced to control #s and prevent exploits.
FACT: 1.12 AV came over 1y later, and change the idea of AV to a normal BG.

In case y’all were wondering, OP just got here yesterday and every one of his posts are anti-classic and how he could do it better. Troll. Report and move along.

FACT: You finally got the name brand cereal. Sat right down in isle ‘private server,’ cried, and got the cereal. Mama and Papa caved.

FACT: Continuing to cry because a few pieces in the bag -1.12AV- aren’t exactly what you remember or want, from the last time you had name brand cereal, is undignified and sad.

FACT: You should just be happy with the high quality, stable, well maintained Classic cereal. You don’t get it often, you hardly deserve it and it will be almost 100% as delicious as you remember. And infinitely better than the private server, off brand, nasty nuggets you’ve been snacking on.

Your ad hominem attack does not reduce the merit of my arguments, and it is flat out wrong.

FACT: 1.5 AV isn’t coming back.

Your argument would need some merit for us to reduce.
