Who Were the First Ones? My Theory

I already posted this in a different thread, but I thought it might be a good idea to make my own since my theory isn’t as relevant there.

Thesis: I think where the Titans and the Eternal Ones fit into the cosmic scheme points to the existence of two essential building blocks of the universe which pre-date even the Light and the Void. From that, I think I can explain the purpose of the First Ones as well as where they might’ve gone.

  • Order and Death require a pantheon, Life and Chaos do not. Why do I think so?
  1. Order and Death are both very mechanical forces. The Titans craft machines, Death operates in a huge machine.
  2. Life and Chaos are both very organic forces. They will proliferate (or consume) endlessly even to the detriment of themselves without the guidance and intervention of Order and Death.
  3. Order and Death, moreso than Life and Chaos, would therefore need the leadership of a pantheon to ensure this balance is maintained.

The two pantheons were built to balance each other and allow the physical and spiritual universe to be self-sustaining. What produced the physical and spiritual universe over which those forces reign? The clashing of the Light and the Void. This leads to the second layer of my theory:

  • The Light and the Void, before the existence of the universe as we know it, were part of the same cosmic force: Creation. The First Ones were a pantheon representing Creation. Following the same logic as my first point, what’s their cosmic opponent which would lack a pantheon? Entropy. The inevitable unmaking of the universe.

Look at First Ones architecture. It incorporates a lot of gold and Light-themed stuff, but you’ll notice it also has a lot of swirling dark blue portals and other Void-flavored details. Both the Light and the Void utilize geometric architecture similar to that of the First Ones. I think that points to the fact that the First Ones pre-date when the Light and the Void were split into essential polar opposites. They pre-date the Big Bang that started off the WoW universe.

I think the First Ones willingly sacrificed themselves by splitting apart to create the Light and the Void, and from those two clashing, everything else. I think their deaths were necessary to empower that system, and all magic and energy in the universe directly originates from their essence, just like how anima empowers the Shadowlands.

TL;DR I think our current WoW universe is the direct result of the First Ones committing self-undo.

Let me know what you think, or if you have any evidence that could support or refute my theory! Would love to hear it.

It is a theory. But it makes me wonder why they would do it? If they had a culture and society and technology, why would they feel the need to destroy themselves to create a multiverse with lives and souls and various magical forces?

The logical answer seems to be a threat of some sort. Either to combat an external threat or to stave off an internal threat. Maybe one of the First Ones became aware of a truth that meant his people must be destroyed, because they were a threat to existence. Or maybe they encountered an affliction or corruption that would doom their people as they were currently constituted, but it could be better faced at an almost cellular level.

Or maybe the First Ones were actually a victorious race of Amalgamations made up of souls and matter from the universe they conquered. And they felt so bad about the heartless massacres and destruction in their wake, they decided to release the energies they claimed and coveted as a form of penance, in order to give existence another chance?

I was just trying to consider reasons they would sacrifice themselves to make the multiverse, as per your theory.
