Even in the Legion quest regarding that, Velen gets sidelined so Genn can be the weird comfort/voice of reason. And this isn’t like, oh Velen’s not here at all. Velen’s right there. He gets one line and nothing in the little cinematic lmao.
The most I remember of the alliance side war campaign is that all the leaders are gathered and Velen or Moira have gossip text about how much of a blessing it is that so many of their leaders are priests. It’s a weird vibe. Other than that, the army of light is part of some warfronts, and serves as the force to defeat in drustvar from the horde side. Which is another… weird vibe? Like it’s great that horde side has the trolls absolutely kick them around. But I vaguely remember one or multiple enemy npcs from that assault talking about a crusade when the army of light is supposed to be there for defense. I’ll have to catch it again sometime and see for sure.
I don’t find Khadgar even a little bit funny or charming and the highlight of BfA was when he went “the evil zombie lady and the people fighting the evil zombie lady are exactly the same ” and he dropped off the face of the world for a while.
he’s genuinely the worst. I don’t know why he’s considered an ally, we’ve killed characters for substantially less awful things than what he’s done but they still try to pass him off as some friendly battle-loving grandpa character instead of the complete psychopathic piece of garbage he is and it drives me insane
Oh definitely Malfurion. I haven’t really been a fan of his since he came back in Cata and Tyrande just got shoved to the side. But even then it was more just, eh I don’t care for this guy but whatever kind of attitude.
Then Legion happened and I had to deal with the epic levels of stupidity from him in Val’sharah with him suddenly not being a cool headed leader and running head long into a very seriously obvious frickin trap! A trap that got my second favorite Dragon Aspect corrupted! Which in turn forced me to have a hand in putting her down like a rabid animal! Oh I truly hated him after that.
And while I really hate how Shadowlands pretty much made death irrelevant, I am completely on board trading hos worthless self in to get Ysera back. Finally he does something remotely worthwhile.
so from an IC perspective, Kailarra the Demon Hunter hates Lor’themar Theron and believes him a traitor and a coward.
The Horde has done far, far worse than the Illidari have, and for far, far less reason. And more importantly, they have made this mistake multiple times. If Silvermoon were to be attacked again, I don’t think Kai would raise a finger to help. As far as she’s concerned, the sin’dorei decided they don’t need the Illidari’s assistance, so if they were to all be wiped out again, I don’t think Kai would shed a single tear.
I like him OOC, but felt that playing a demon hunter means she would have a different perspective on the Horde. After all, you’re asking a veteran of the second war to ally with a woman that failed her people already, the blood elves that betrayed them, trolls, orcs, and a faction that historically invaded the Black Temple for No Real Reason. I can’t see it going over well. Teldrassil would be more of a case of confirmation bias than a wake-up call that the Horde is Bad.
I cant really say hate since the rule of no lambasting Zovaal for his lack of actual build up or Sylvanas for the dumpster fire that was her writing post-Wrath. I shall opt for strong dislikes.
Genn- I agree with Kolwa on this. The dude literally has caused enormous amounts of suffering for his own people (Never called out on it story wise) and with the exception of his son’s death, there is nothing to really make me look at him and feel sympathy. What makes his volitile behavior to supposed discount father figure in BfA all the more noteworthy is that it feels so fake. He only has this behavior around Anduin. Anyone else? lmao nope. I do not buy that -he- believes what he tells Anduin and would relish a scene where Genn tries to give Turalyon advice and gets an audible eyeroll in answer.
Odyn- Lets see, If we just cut everything before him objecting to the Aspects, he’d be fine… but thats not why he’s here. The dude reeks of future Loot Pinata, being opposed to dragons having sentience and wanting a personal army made in his image. He then proceeded to forcible transform Helya into a Val’kyr to fulfill his fantasy of having Vrykrul brought to him to be made in his image and then continued on this path and claimed that the next transformation was solely because of her arrogance rather than anything he had done. Guy is a total piece of work and I genuinely do not like him as a character and look forward to when we off him for real. Probably when Tyr is revived.
Tl;dr version: Gul’dan and Turalyon, also something iffy and gross about a line referencing Thrall.
I think people overlook Gul’dan a lot because of how well his place in the story was handled. No two ways about it-- He is a villain. There are parts of his origin story that are sympathetic courtesy of a gorgeous animatic that released around Legion, but he’s absolutely an antagonist. He’s committed heinous, horrific, offensive crimes against mortality and I’m glad he’s dead. Watching his death cinematic made me want to put him back together and keep blasting him over, and over, and over, and over, and over… He’s the only character that can actually make my skin crawl. So… Well done on your irredeemable piece of garbage, writers?
That might have been a little too easy, so I’ll throw a harder one out there. Turalyon. Oh, excuse me, ‘Exarch’ Turalyon. He’s got ‘outsider savior’ written all over him and I’m not a fan of that. Looking at the actual character though… He has been in a very unforgiving land for a very long amount of time and has a mostly one-track-mind. I understand this. What I DON’T understand is why he’s STILL involved in Stormwind’s leadership??? He doesn’t need to be anywhere near the king’s chair. AT ALL. Literally almost anyone would be a better stand-in than him. If you talk to him in SW while he is sitting in that chair, he’s speaking with concern to the military and establishing old outposts. This would be fine dialogue if he wasn’t a substitute for the highest level of authority in the kingdom. I’m fighting a battle of common sense vs. my desire for the writers to make the Alliance do something loud and unarguably terrible, for a change.
…
One more thing. This isn’t about Thrall but it involves him. I didn’t like doing the quest for the Doomhammer in Legion and having the accompanying NPCs whisper about how they won’t be the ones to tell his wife if he unalives himself. I don’t know if it’s been removed or not, but it was legitimately in the enhancement shaman questline. One of the first things you did when you started that expac. It was very out of left field and felt gross.
Metzen treated Thrall as a self-insert for a while. He’s gone on record as saying that Thrall’s Cata content (with the wife, the kids, the sadness in Vashjir) was his way of communicating to the players that his home life was in trouble and he needed to leave to focus on it. I’m not saying everyone should like Thrall now because of that. What I’m saying is, knowing what we know now about Ysera’s situation in Legion and other related matters, I have to wonder if that line about Thrall was put in ‘intentionally’.
Calia Menethil because I read Before the Storm, like a fool
She can’t sit with us,
She can be here but I refuse to acknowledge her as a member of the Desolate Council because she’s only Undead-Lite and therefore is NOT a valid member of this Squad.
Helmet Nesingwary… so many kills and he shows up everywhere!
Eh, storywise, Aili really doesn’t hate anyone, holds many in disdain and what not. However, if there was to be one she hated… Elite max level Murlocs… just why?
