I’m sure you will be 100% satisfied with TBC when it comes out, and won’t play for three months and then make a post identical to this one, but talking about how great Wrath was.
I’ve said that for me, Classic will succeed or fail based on its ability to recapture the positive and constructive player base that the game had at launch - a player base that was mostly coming from a background of TTRPG rather than cut-throat online play.
I was encouraged during the first couple of days after launch as I saw players actively putting on their best attitudes. But IMO, the early success of the game caused a mass flood of players from Retail that didn’t want to miss out on the new hot thing, and they brought their attitudes with them.
So, I guess my view of Classic has changed since I’ve noticed my playtime drop off dramatically.
Nah love classic.
You see the same people and develop an identity,as well as a sense of constancy and community otherwise non existent in retail.
There have been moments in AV as good as anything I ever experienced n pvp, fighting along side rogues and warriors who I know to defend and retake towers etc. Its unreal.
Wind fury 1 shotting gnome mages might have something to do with it as well.
It’s going as expected, a bunch of people who thought it would be something it never was to begin with who lasted until that new shine wore off.
The things people complain about today are much the same things we complained about then. There are a few new ones, but almost all of them are self inflicted by the player base.
Frankly I think it will be a better experience on down the road when people are just playing to play. Those that need to do things first, need to min/max everything, need to be rank 14, etc. are all burnt out and gone.
Classic is going the way it is because people aren’t just happy to play, they have this need to dominate Vanilla and it just makes for a short lived crappy experience for themselves and everyone else.
TBC was a grind too. And the devs have basically come right out and said it was a bad business decision. Of course they didn’t mind all the extra subs. They just realized they could milk or stagger the content roll out better.
Nah, classic is a pain at times. I want to see it through. Then I’m done. I might even delete my account for once. There’s so much more to life than this wreck.
This may come as a huge surprise to many of these forum goers, aka the vocal minority, but a good many of us are in our late 20’s. That means we started in burning crusade/wotlk for the most part. Classics okay simply because it’s not retail, but most of us never cared about world PvP like ya’ll do and we started with flying in the game, and soon after we got looking for dungeon which took away that absurd mob grind. It still took a while to get to max level and was still rewarding.
Some of you came from everquest and in comparison WoW vanilla was easy. We didn’t. TBC was our everquest. You’re gonna run this whole great thing we have into the ground by being stubborn. Games like OSRS would have died if there were no updates, but they found a way to still maintain the basic soul of the game, which WoW lost the first time around.
I’m 100 percent sure that if blizzard released seperate TBC or wotlk servers these vanilla ones would die and only a handful of hardcore players would stay. That’s why ya’ll speak against the idea so much. You don’t want to lose your little gem just like the retail players who were on forums for years trolling classic posts.
I will just say this, we were given an opportunity to relive an experience. All of us had different experiences 15 years ago. Some good and some bad. Blizzard was also given a chance to “recreate” their game. They could of fixed the major issues and flaws we all experienced 15 years ago, but chose not to. It looks like the #nochange crowd got their wish and Classic WoW is doing well reminding us of the good and bad experiences…right down to the gold sellers and illegitimate honor farmers… but it’s been fun and will continue to be fun for most while it lasts!
classic itself isnt the problem.
the warped zoomer tryhard e-sport/wannabe streamer mentality that infects gaming in 2020 ruined it, alongside the toxic influence of activision-blizzard and their cost cutting measures, including a barebones nonexistent GM and support team.
I hear that ZG has some nice catchup gear and requires a considerably smaller raid.
When that hits I hope my warrior can get some decent scrap. Though whether if it can recapture my interest when Vulpera are out is another matter in itself.
bought bfa last week and i am enjoying my druid 100x more than in classic. classic isn’t hard or challenging, it’s just dull and boring. once i got pre-raid bis on two chars, there is nothing to do but raid once a week. at least in bfa there is things to do outside of that. classic was fun for while but not so much anymore, meh. TBC and WotLK were my favorite expansions so i guess i’ll just hold out until those get released…hopefully.
I would rather be playing with the more-refined “Vanilla” rule-set of TBC, but Classic is fine also.
I think that the major disappointments for most revolve around PvP - but MMORPG PvP has always been an exploitable, zerging and/or griefing joke that ended up hurting the PvE game in the never ending attempts to “fix it”.
I found the journey to 60 to be one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences.
Unfortunately for me the end game has been lack luster at best. So I’m levelling an alt in the mean time.
… Why cant you kids stick to one game and play it all the way to the end… Always on to the next new shiny thing…
And i find youth struggle with apathy… so maybe thats why these youngins dont care about community or reputation… or building longterm friendships / adversaries …
wPvP is about faction pride… guild pride… is about getting to know your enemy on a personal level… building strong bonds with allies…
Cheers intro starts playing Old Boomer sitcom…
“Sometimes you wanna go! WHERE EVERYBODY KNOWS YOUR NAME!” da da da!
Well, I still like Classsic.
Albeit, as you can see I did not Rush it like many others. I just hit 40 and also have a couple more alts comming up in their 30’s and 20’s.
I play it Casually and it is very enjoyable like that. On the other hand I was up there in the Ranks R12-14 in vanilla, so for me it was “been there done that” and so I am not rushing to be there agin and enjoying the journey more than the destination, exploring quests I never done in vanilla etc.
I am expecting Classic to remain Classic for at least a year or two so I really see no reason to rush it still, and PvP is the main reason why I am back and I know that I will rank in to it because I tend to spend much time enjoying Playing it anyways. But I would liek to raid some more this time around too.
I am not fornd of the fact that it is based off 1.12 either, yet, I think I can cope and will continue to play as long as they do not repeat the TBC and give us a new Classic+ evolution beyond in the future.
If the Patches repeat with Arenas and PvP Resilience etc etc …I am out too.
I have.
I expected to dip in for a nostalgic taste of old starter zones, and to be satisfied with that “those were the days” moment and then drift back to Retail.
Not so.
I am absolutely hooked. Everything that sucked me in with Vanilla is still absolutely compelling. I am really, really enjoying my experience. 70% of the way through level 38 and I can smell my class mount.
I have found a charming, helpful, sociable guild. I have found personal and world RP (if not the steamy knight/squire RP I had asked Greatfather Winter for) and am having a blast.
Expectations met and exceeded. Well done, Blizzard.
i have but not for the reasons mentioned. i was for classic. even knowing the .12 was a craphole patch to put it on and knowing av was all anyone would do as idiots thinking they stood a chance at r14. what has me not even wanting to play is 1. all raids seem to be done at 8 which isnt a good time for me. 2. most guilds are using loot council which is code for the inner circle gets all the gear. when i played classic we used dkp which rewarded those who showed up most frequently instead of those who kissed a gms butt. i havent gotten a char to 60 yet in classic i keep rerolling i really have no reason to hit 60 knowing how the end game crowd is nowdays. i just want MoP so i dont have to give a crap about others and can spam arenas till my hearts content without them being scaled.
I haven’t had a change of heart for classic. I still like it better than retail. Just hit 60 today and quickly realized there isn’t much running for groups. The groups that are running are all reserved, Guilds are all geared up and just raiding. And forming a group is well almost not happening. Shame if turned out this way, for me hitting 60 was anything but a nostalgic experience. But time was wasted and I did hit 60 so I guess I’ll try again if they decide to release TBC.
Wrath is just retail light. If you like wrath, you should love retail
Wrath is just retail light. If you like wrath, you should love retail
I know this isn’t the accepted meme on this forum… but I like both retail and classic.
Sorry I don’t fit in your pidgeon-hole.
Here’s the interesting bit, the players who want to play Classic, are currently playing Classic. Not running around in the forums throwing words. I find that it’s majority of the retail fan base who for some reason, want to bash classic because they’ve been told it’s easy mode compared to Classic (which it is btw), that come on the forum and make numerous complaint posts. Which isn’t surprising since there’s nothing else to do if you play retail.
Classic wasn’t released for those who want to play retail. Classic was released for those who want to play WoW the way it was years ago. And I stress on, THOSE WHO WANT TO PLAY WOW THE WAY IT WAS YEARS AGO, because if you complain about bugs and QoL stuff, then you weren’t an advocate of classic/vanilla wow. Because the advocates know what they wanted and know what they were getting into, and didn’t want anything to change. Which has been made somewhat valid by the OP, who wasn’t an advocate and so is complaining about the way things are with Classic.
I was an advocate for Classic… This is actually the first time I’m posting in the forum, since release in August and well, since the past maybe 3+ years This is my main, and I am in no rush to blaze through content. What’s the point? There’re so many quests and stories to get into. So I’m taking my time and playing through the game when I get a chance.
