One of my adult kids plays Classic. They were too young when Classic was current to play beyond “hey, wanna fish for me?”, so they’ve been having fun with their own version of nostalgia. Their guild seems to be a mix of: others around the same age like them who watched parents play when they were little (apparently a lot of parents used child labor for fishing in Vanilla/BC/WotLK lol), older players that maybe took extended time away due to RL then, that can actually now play that content, and people my age and older playing for nostalgia. But none of them are/were brand spanking new to WoW.
I don’t know that they’re really are any new players coming to this game. I think most of these spiked numbers are a result of people with nostalgia coming back to see if the game has changed or improved at all.
they can be new…to classic.
I am a retail tourist who went more permanent resident. 2019 was new to me.
Techically… even the MOP beta is new to me.
I came to wow late legion. I know of mop as that small section on the way to WoD in old leveling scheme. in legion setup…with BFA precode since 2 weeks out till that released lol.
I see MOP as MOP, first time now lol.
Idk but I do wish they’d upgrade classic graphics to at least retail quality.
Might get more players, too.
Im a new player…what do you want?
A bunch of it came from Loremaster and now I’m very slowly going back and doing all the little things I’ve missed out on.
I got the ‘Dire Mail’ the item the other day.
I’ll just say this - easy and fast is good for baking a cake for your kid’s birthday at the last minute. However it’s not good for long term retention so n a video game.
So truly new players who join retail may be “ooh and ahh” for the first 30 hours of play but I’d wager the majority will start thinking “it’s boring there’s no challenge “
I started WoW during MoP so having MoP remix happen made me really happy. I think i would have been disappointed in WoW if i had started say in BFA or SL’s though.
I would say they attract different crowds, but Retail probably attracts more players.
Retail is more fitting for casual players who don’t have the time to grind as much and I would say Classic attracts more of a social aspect.
I don’t really see too many people talking in chat in Retail, but in Classic there seems to always be a few people you can find to help you out with something. Most people in Retail seem to only talk in guild chat or discord and it’s kind of frustrating in my opinion because it makes the game feel lifeless. Although I do understand discord for raids and it being easier to communicate in general.
As someone who falls into Gen Z category, this hurts. I love achieving big goals and long term small advancements. I play 95% retail, PvP and M+. but I do classic to level, but I’m not touching classic endgame content.
There is a good handful of Gen Z’ers playing games like OSRS too and that game is the definition of a grind. BUT! I do understand whom you’re pointing your fingers at.
You are one of the rare zoomers that plays wow, I mostly play with 30 to 40 years old.
Which version of classic? Sorry, Have to ask, there are like 4 era’s (era era, SOD and anniv and I split off anniv HC for 4 )and cata lol.
Mop has some of that. Beta so far has me go oh, this is when this came in.
