Which is more powertful, A void naaru or old god?

Perhaps. Personally I just think Illidan killing Xe’ra was less about story consistency more about edgelord pandering or Illidan fanboying/fangirling.

You could be right about A’dal. These are just some of the problems with story presentation.

It’d be interesting if we got information about the Old Gods on other planets.

Agreed on there being problems with story presentation.

When it comes to this story, the only meaningful metric for power seems to come from how destructive a power is. So for the Old Gods which infested the planet, spawned an empire, and can kill the entire planet if incorrectly removed, it presents something of a significant image of power. By contrast the Naaru whom rarely engage in combat but seem to wield powers in more subtle ways, don’t come off as threatening in comparison to Old Gods.

I suppose an interesting question to ask is: “Could an Old God be Lightforged/Lightbound?”

That question has crossed my mind since naaru have a Void form, but I don’t think so.

On that note, the Old Gods have also used their powers in subtle ways not related to direct destruction (visions, the Curse of Flesh, the Emerald Nightmare…)

I was going to say that we did sort of get info on Old Gods on other planets, but then I remembered that Chronicles is no longer a reliable source of info :cry:

We do see an Old God (sort of) in TBC that the Sethekk Cult was trying to summon to Outland. Gul’dan stopped them during the Rise of the Horde, then we finish the job as their spirits were continuing with the ritual. This “summoned Old God” uses C’thuns model though, granted it was the only old god model at the time (yogg would come in Wrath and N’zoth in BFA).

So there are Old Gods on other worlds. Not to mention the number of Void corrupted planets one can see from the Vindicaar after defeating Argus.

Oh yeah. I forgot about that one.

You can also see more during the Star Augar Atreaus fight in the nighthold.

There’s also the aspect of lore as to what it took to kill them.

What it’s taken to kill Old Gods;

  • Direct intervention from a planet-sized Titan (Y’shaarj)
  • A beam from a weapon that could depopulate a planet. (N’Zoth)
  • Being beaten by 10 - 25 heroes when at a fraction of their full might (C’thun, Yogg-Saron… not sure G’huun counts)

What it’s taken to kill Naaru;

  • 25 heroes attacking (Mu’ru)
  • A torrent of Fel-energy and a Goblin shredder-sized Fel Reaver (O’ros)
  • One uber demon hunter’s eye beams (Xe’ra, and she’s supposed to be a militant Prime Naaru)
  • Five heroes and one person draining their Void energy (Lu’ra)
  • 10 - 25 heroes attacking one (Ti’or)

If Blizzard’s going to try and sell us the idea that Naaru are as much a threat as the Old Gods if they push this “evil naaru, Light bad” retcon, they’re doing a terrible job of it.
