Shaman feels easier to play. Chain Heal, Healing Wave, Healing Surge, Riptide, Healing Rain, and Healing Tide Totem are all handy.
The hardest sell is being in melee. Beyond that, Ancient Teachings will do the bulk of your AoE healing for you. All you have to do is manage Jadefire Stomp (And whatever replaces that weird AoE heal).
Everything else in the kit is a little too powerful healing wise right now. Renewing Mist [w/ Chi Harmony] + [Instant Cast] Vivify will burst almost anyone to full, almost even a tank.
Life Cocoon is also a stupid good emergency cooldown. Tank about to die? Cocoon. DPS about to die? Cocoon. Oh hey look, it’s back up the next time you need it.
Resto shaman is one of the hardest healers to play.
Holy paladin being hardest (cause of aversion to melee.)
No real experience with monk.
Really? I find it easier than Holy and Discipline Priest.
I loathed riptide /primordial wave.
And it stuck around for Dragonflight.
priest. is easy to play. Resto druid looks good but then you have to know the dungeons and raids and use HoTs before hand
Hm. Lots to think about here. I guess I should get my priest leveled. Guild has a shaman soil didn’t consider it. I hear they’re not doing so well?
I’m going to go think on it for a bit. Hm.
Monk is super fun. I highly recommend it.
Holy priest basic rotation isn’t bad, but they have a stack of cooldown abilities that don’t seem to do much. I mostly play Shadow on my priest.
Okay so priest is not technically out. Just disc priest. Holy is a reactive healer and a fairly good one.
You also got holy paladin, but paladin’s have a lot of utility and if you’re wanting to avoid that then perhaps not.
Evoker has a much shorter range than other healers and as you said you have trouble optimizing the full kit.
I don’t normally play monk but they seem to be a good healer.
Shaman is a very reactive healer- they also have a large kit but most of it is very situational and the actual abilities you use often are limited. It is really easy to do damage as well with a resto shaman.
Anyway, for an easier beginner friendly healer I would recommend holy priest and shaman.
yeah, Rshaman is the only healer I feel comfortable with.
I might be missing some extra complexity or something, I dont always use every ability, but what I need to get the job done. lol
I haven’t played Shaman but it seems like the most “Healer” healer there is. You’d think Holy Priest would be your traditional healer but all the cooldowns changed them to be more of a technical healer. Even Disc is more traditional than Holy at this point (An off the wall statement at that).
Resto Druid is the most non-traditional healer of the bunch. They’re super technical but that also means they have the best healing kit in the game. Make the right choices and success will almost always be guaranteed.
Just another thing to consider is how often a particular healer type is tweeked by bliz. I recall a big twist to Resto Shamans once, and a kinda annoying to Druids once. Maybe not a big deal, but if you hear of rumours of one type, maybe avoid it until you see the results. Changes that affect people don’t take long to pop up in this Community.
It’s because of needing to use riptide even during periods of no healing.
It’s annoying to play on that basis alone.
I think it’s the fact that shaman has so many buttons that it scares people off. Even though their actual rotation is probably one of the easiest in the game.
Can you imagine never playing shaman and getting a level boost, how daunting all those very specialized totems ect look.
I wonder also if its just natural, innate ability with the player…some find one thing easier than others, right off the bat.
My wife is good at one thing Im not so good at, and vice versa.
Wonder if thats what drives each of us to the spec we end up enjoying and being best with.
I think you’re basically left with Shaman or Paladin if you are unwilling to play Priest (Disc is proactive, Holy is not very). Of those two, Holy Paladin is a five alarm fire right now. Everything just feels awful with Holy Paladin. So I would definitely lean towards Resto Shaman.
Being in melee is definitely the hardest sell for me, I play ranged classes mostly and I feel happiest at range. Last time I tried it I also had mana conservation issues… But it’s such a nice spec that I really want to try it again. Maybe I’ll give it a go in Remix. Thanks for replying!
Monk is super fun, but it’s also a ramping healer in raids. Like Resto Druid. So it’s fairly proactive.
That’s fair about melee. I played Mistweaver last season and the Darkheart Thicket last boss was the bane of my existence. Being in melee for that boss was an absolute no on Tyrannical weeks (Presuming the party was mostly melee).
As for mana issues, Mistweaver is hands down the best mana management healer currently. That might change in TWW, but for now, Mana Tea has been arguably one of the most unfair mana regen additions to a healer in a good while.
There’s also the whole managing Renewing Mist ordeal. In raids it’s critical. In M+, it’s not exactly mandatory. Mist help but it’s that Chi Harmony proc that matters most.
All subject to change in TWW. Though for right now, Mistweaver is really strong (And forgiving).
