Which expac did Blizzard start making the zone map explored?

You know how in vanilla, all the zones were blank. When you traveled places, you unlocked the exploration on the map for that area. I can’t remember if BC was the same as vanilla. I think it started in Wotlk. Is when Blizzard did away with it and made entire zones visible.

I think its so much better to have it blank like how it is in Classic.

Yes it’s better :).
But, since addons can display the fully explored map and quest objectives in unexplored area it’s a bit pointless.

Not everyone wants to use addons to play the game for them.

that’s why they added the feature directly to the game, now you don’t need an addon for the game to play itself for you

Um I still have zones that aren’t fully explored in retail now and I can’t see them. Did they put it in then take it out?

Im asking when did they do it? In BC or Wotlk?

no idea 10

they never implemented something like that, you probably have an addon. if you haven’t explored a zone, in any expac, it will be blank in your map. its one of their gameplay staples.

Yeah that’s not a real thing. you likely have a map addon. Turn all your addons off any you’ll see the map still needs to be explored.

Are you talking about Flight Path’s? Because they didn’t do that until Cataclysm, although Death Knight’s got in a little early getting all the Azeroth points for free in Wrath.

Yeah, the zone maps have always been blank until you entered the area to unlock them. The only thing you see on the blank zone map are markers for flight paths that you can unlock just by getting to them. You can’t even see markers for flight paths that require quests or other special means to unlock them.

I don’t remember if the flight path markers came in at some specific expansion but it was a long time ago. I didn’t even look for that in the stress test because I already know where all the old flight paths should be.

Addons don’t play the game for you and never have. Those are called bots and are a great way to get banned.
Do addons help and make things easier or more convenient? Yes they do. Some addons also make the game better or more enjoyable to some.
Personally, I just use UI addons and meter addons for threat and dps.
Ui addons because default UI looks terrible.

They do, in some way.
They are giving you instant informations that you’ll have to use your brain if they were not here (timer/threat/dbm/quests etc…)

Except UI, some addons are instant advantage on the players that don’t use them.

don’t you know that if players are skilled enough they can do these calculations like the entire party’s exact threat in their head faster than a computer can calculate it?

We can’t do it as fast as a computer.
But we can learn. With addons we don’t even have to bother about learning the game.
And you don’t need to know the raid’s exact threat or your threat at all if you play well.

Don’t trust me ? Just check here : _https://www.method.gg/raid-history
It’s all Vanilla world first. You’ll even see a mage in Naxx not having KTM and before Nefarian no threat meter at all.

I used to do it by feel and by how many crits I got in a row lol.

Blizzard refers to the blank map as “fog of war” and to this very day all maps in all xpacs are blank until you explore them.

Or you use mapster or similar add on.

In fact you have to explore the map to get Pathfinder now don’t you?

I would bet OP is using ElvUI or Tuk which turn off the fog of war by default and assumed it was a default setting.

And @Twiinkedd mapster? hehe. No one uses that one anymore
