Which class to choose for solo play

I play for a little while and I can't decide which class I should play. I usually play alone, I do immersions and world missions, I look for achievements and try to do the end game that way. However, I can't choose a class that stays alive at more self-immersion levels. I'm currently trying with DK blood, but I don't know if it's the best choice, some tell me it can be a paladin, others that it can be a Druid, even a rogue. But I don't know for sure. Can you help me?

I am not exactly sure what you mean by “stays alive at more self-immersion levels” but I guess you mean can survive against the hardest enemies.

Would you like this answer translated into another language?

If you say more about the kinds of enemies you are killed by, I may be able to help more.

The characters that can survive most things are the Tank specializations of classes.

  • Guardian Druid
  • Protection Paladin
  • Blood Death Knight
  • Vengeance Demon Hunter
  • Brewmaster Monk
  • Protection Warrior

Beast Mastery Hunter with a tanking pet and Warlock with a tanky Voidwalker are the two non-Tank Damage classes that can survive best because they have a tanky pet that can take most of the damage. It depends on the type of attack you are facing. But let us consider the actual Tank specs first.

You mention Rogue. Rogue is very bad for self-healing. Rogues have tricks to avoid damage, and a very skilful Rogue can avoid a lot of damage, but you should not consider it.

  • Guardian Druid,
  • Protection Paladin, and
  • Blood Death Knight
have the best self-healing. They can heal themselves without relying on another person to heal them. Vengeance Demon Hunter and Protection Warrior do get healing from killing enemies, but that does not help when you are fighting one big enemy.

Guardian Druid is the easiest to play. It is the best overall solo class and specialization to survive with.

If you don’t mind being a Bear, Guardian Druid also has many other advantages for questing and travelling. It can go into stealth. It can turn to flight form instantly. It can turn into a cat for extra run speed.

It’s been 10 days and we may never know how this turned out.

Try a paladin. You might like it. Tank spec is Protection paladin.
It’ll take a bit to kill your enemies but your survival will be good. GL & welcome to the game.

I also prefer to play solo and I’ve had a lot of fun playing elemental shaman.

Different people, different tastes.

My favorite questing spec is Frost Mage, precisely because I am so squishy I can be snapped like a twig if I’m not careful, but I have all the tools to survive pretty much anything if I use them well.

Back in 5.4, in the first few days of Timeless, the higher slopes wree a slaughter, and someone said “How are clothies surviving here?” That warmed my frosty heart; I never forgot it.

For a super-survivable character in the world, my personal pick is Prot Paladin. You could argue for Bear or BDK, or even Warr, but I do love the toolkit.

As a returning player (since OP has bailed apparently this would be for others seeing this topic) I think Druid has the best options for “I’m not sure what I want to be when I grow up” until players figure out what they really enjoy, especially in new expansion content.

Plus as a solo player the ability to simply stealth past random garbage mobs to get to where I want is a massive benefit, and as mentioned above Rogue tends to be too fragile for an inexperienced player like myself (my rogue died five times on the starter island..what the heck!!)

Yes, there is no question that, on paper, Druid is simply The Best Class.

It has four specs, so you can play Tank. Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, or Healer. You gain so much extra utility, like Stealth, Instant Flight, Aquatic Form, Heals in every spec, Teleport: Moonglade, which has enormous practical uses You have combat utility and buffs including Mark ofthe Wild, Typhoon, Incapacitating Roar, and roots.

Getting used to that whole big toolbox is a lot for a new player, though, so if your focus is trying not to die, sticking to Guardian spec (Bear) is maybe easiest. But the other resources are there for you later on, when you are ready for it.

So why does anyone play anything else? Well, not everybody wants to play as an animal, and you can’t play with gear appearances, and when you get to the stage of focusing on one role, the spec of Druid you need may not be what works best for you.
