I am leveling a Protection Paladin as an Enchanter and Engineer. I do not have any high level alts. I was intending to boost a character to level mining so I can have a supply of ore to be able to make Engineering items.
However, as I tank a few dungeons as I level, I realize how badly I need mana. So, I was wondering if I need an Herbalist/Alchemist character to be a mana potion factory? Might I be better off with a Druid that can take Herbalism and Alchemy and buy whatever materials I need for Engineering?
I do not intend to really play the character other than as a profession alt.
I guess one other question is whether I need an profession alt at all. Would I be better off just farming gold with the Paladin rather than spending time leveling a profession alt?
Easily the worst class to level the old fashioned way, imo. So if you’re gonna pay to skip, druid is the way to go. If you need an alchemist, you can always either
A) Make friends with one and give them herbs in exchange for pots, or
B) Level a new toon to 45 so they can craft most everything.
Druid is only a really really decent choice if you have enough money to get him epic flight. And epic flight form isn’t even out yet. Otherwise you’ll basically be stuck on your 60% flying form trying to gather which SUUCCCKKKSSS.
Another option is rogue simply because you can lock pick items so if you have enchanting your get a ton more free DEs
Druid 60% flying is still superior to any other class with 60% flying.
And I doubt the people buying epic flying right away are the ones concerned about long term farming of herbs + ore.
But yeah, Rogue is another solid choice. Being able to CC mobs(or opponent faction players on PvP servers) near nodes and vanish away is fantastic. And of course, passive gold from offering lockpicking is always nice.
Not really though. Flying means you can take a direct path and have to worry very little about mobs. When it comes to farming ore/herbs, 60% flying will take priority.
Thanks, all! It looks like Druid with Herbalism and Mining is the answer. Rogue for lockboxes is an intriguing idea, but I think I’m still inclined to go Druid. (I’ve never really “clicked” with either class, so they’re good candidates for a boost. I don’t enjoy playing classes I’ve boosted because I never feel any attachment to them.)
I will level this Mage, and I also intend to eventually level a Hunter. But, who knows if I’ll get either of them leveled before Wrath!
