Where is the hybrid tax?

Alright, so since ret has the ability to shield itself, it must be so terrible that you’d virtually never want to bring a single one to raid outside of some super niche instances? I don’t really think that’s what you’re trying to say, but I also don’t have any idea what you consider to be desirable class balance.

Skilled gamers are going to min/max to optimize efficiency, so again, what’s the answer.

I’ve defined what I think. You haven’t. You’re just talking about your feelings.

You’re claiming class stacking only exists in classic era… I said no, that it exists globally and that people chase FOTM rerolls because they’re overpowered - era just doesn’t have the swinging pendulum of balance. That playing with a certain hyper-optimized comp is not a “classic era only” trait, but that you seem to hate warriors as a specific class because there’s a lot of them in classic era.

Which is goofy. It’s the only spammed class in classic era - and it’s good at specifically one thing: unga bunga dps. It’s the highest dps, because it’s only good at dpsing. It can’t aoe, can’t hybrid, can’t kite, can’t heal, can’t aoe threat, can’t can’t can’t goes on and on. It’s a great example of why something that doesn’t have an endless array of viability (re: druid, paladin, shaman) should be insanely good at the one thing they’re able to do.

It also simultaneously holds that the classes who can do other things shouldn’t be able to do them anywhere near as powerfully, due to being able to fulfill other tasks.

All you’ve (seemingly) said is that you want to play a game where it’s optimal (as in, several times better than the alternative) for a small minority of specs to be massively overrepresented in content. Invalidating the existence of so many specs isn’t good design. You can pretend like versatility in roles is a valuable thing, but it’s not, and that’s not how reality played out in classic.

To repeat what I said elsewhere: if a hybrid class fully commits to a certain role with talents and gear, it should perform generally as well as a ‘pure’ (not that warriors are pures, they’re the best tanks AND DPS, but you people really enjoy ignoring this logical inconsistency) performing their respective role, with any given spec performing better or worse compared to another of the same type depending on the encounter.

These are just attempts to shift it to ad hominems but as usual, you are unable to provide any specific details. If all classes do equal dps the game is less balanced, not more, because it is not accounting for tradeoffs such as defensive power, range vs. melee, etc. The game is quite balanced in vanilla, as is, because it is in almost every case accounting for the full power budget of the class, with classes that have more utility and defense getting less overall dps, and classes without getting more. I’ve yet to hear why the opposite is better, where some classes get to have their cake and eat it too.

How is a rogue a hybrid?

That makes sense in that it wouldn’t be fun, but I was responding to the fact that the hybrid tax was never a thing (or at least that’s i think i was. i responded to multiple threads.) when in reality it was.

Not too sure what edition you’re talkking about but just play Baldur’s Gate. Druid isn’t the pure healer a Cleric is. But offers flexibility to do other things.

Like warriors forever, right?

There’s one thing to say the hybrid tax isn’t fun and for those who play a hybrid it could suck. It’s another thing to say that the hybrid tax doesn’t make sense and doesn’t deserve to be there. I mean the hybrid tax can be applies to every day life. Hell it applies to humans. If you’re going to be a power lifter, you aren’t going to run very fast. But if you’re going to be a top finisher in a marathon, you aren’t going to lift very much. Or you can just be a football player and be in between.

It’s simple give and take. The concept isn’t hard. There’s even a saying. “Can’t have your cake and eat it too”

This is one of the things that ruined retail, it’s called Class Homogenization where everyone can do everything. If you do a lot of Dps you shouldn’t have healing/tanky or tons of CC. If you heal you shouldn’t do damage. That way there are Class Roles.

It hasn’t been warriors forever, the entirety of vanilla WoW, when it was current, was rogues and mages. You guys don’t even understand the context of the game, much less it’s design or mechanics. Nor have you either elaborated why other classes with more defense should also do more offense.

Locks too. They they god class of the game.

Locks were rare in vanilla just as they are now. They are dominant in PVP dueling, not even BGs, they’re an afterthought in PVE, especially before the debuff cap was raised. Even Snutz says they’re not the best for BGs and group pvp in vanilla. They’re the best at duels, that’s it. Mostly the issue is that vanilla endgame isn’t designed around the strengths of lock dps, which is split cleave on high health targets.

I don’t know how else I can possibly say that your class has plenty of advantages over balance druids even if the damage was 100% the same, which it isn’t, and likely will not be (so stop worrying about it).

Like, balance does such pitiful damage right now that they’re pointless. There’s no reason almost to ever play them. We don’t deserve that either.

is the whole purpose of classic + not to bring up the hybrid specs to the state that those “pure” dps spec were? Or do you want a classic with the same class balance where you just stack 25 warriors and call it a day? Personally, even if the balance isn’t perfect right now (we’re only level 25 LMAO)… I’d much rather have whatever they’re giving us here than another snooze fest where only like 4 dps specs are taken to serious raids. Play private servers or classic era if that’s what you want

I mean sure they can have a meme game mode that makes no sense but no-one is going to stick around and the balance will be worse than standard vanilla. Strong raids will just take 20 hunters if they’re the best. They still aren’t going to have a mix.

sounds like SoD/Classic + isn’t for you then, there are many types of WoW available to play

we’re not comparing specs. we’re comparing classes. to be fair to blizzard they’re trying to make every hybrids. mages were amazing healers until some dumbass decided to tell the world how OP we were when it came to aoe farming at 25. I knew about it, but i kept it to myself.

But my poitn still stands that the hybrid tax applies to everything in life.
