Where does Classic end and Retail begin?

Once you step back and break off from the idea that the game needs 12 million subs to be ok then you start to see that the game is in fact more than healthy its thriving.

If WoW was really hurting do you think they would just give us a two for one subscription? No we would be paying a premium for either retail or classic.

I disagree, anything can’t be classic.
By that logic, when Dragonflight comes out Shadowlands is classic. lol no.

After wotlk. Will be my last hurrah and either I do SoM, back to classic-tbc-wotlk new servers if they do it or done. No desire to go beyond it unless that beyond is classic plus. Everything past wotlk is not my cup of tea

Here is what I would do at the end of WOTLK-Classic if I was Blizzard.

  1. Classic-Cata: I’d make a Cata classic for people who want to experience expansions they missed in the evolution of wow.

  2. Classic-Reloaded: Simultaneous with cata-classic, I’d start fresh servers that would go from Vanilla-classic to WOTLK-classic again. This time around I’d cut the “replica” and “nostalgia” concentration and focus on modifying everything to make it really challenging and appealing to the hardcore community.

  3. Classic-Plus: I’d start working on developing a new expansion based on the philosophy, mechanics, and basic elements of BC, Vanilla or maybe WOTLK (I totally prefer BC). The Classic-Plus will be released after Classic-Reloaded got to the end of it’s cycle which is WOTLK.

Not bad ideas.

I think however the hard part is getting everyone to do this run, 1 more time. A relaunch of classic vanilla I think would be promising at first, but I don’t think if they were to do a reset and do it all over again, you’d see the same population we did this time around in tbc and wotlk. People only want to level and gear so much before looking at it as a waste of time. A guy that had double warglaives in tbc is probably gonna be a bit annoyed to do it all over again. That makes it start to feel repetitive, rinse and repeat, sort of like retail…

I think WoW + that implemented systems like OSRS has would really take off. It would almost have to be a whole new game, but I really think that’s where the money is. Implement portal housing (since the original design can’t accommodate sandbox housing) implement slayer ranks and instances that you and others can only go into after leveling a slayer level. I think WoW + would have to have a lot more instance based material due to again the layout of the already placed world, but there’s a ton of things they can do. I think another important aspect is somehow providing end game gear in other forms than just raiding. If the best gear always comes from raids, you will always get ppl Quitting the game because they have already got the best gear, what’s the point of doing anything else?

Now hold the damn phone.

@Blizzard we have an idea here.

This is my favorite so far, I think maybe not a FULL reload of the game as people may not like the idea of having to restart everything they just did, only to do the content a bit harder.

But they could certainly release new content, or harder content, even versions of baby heroics for the leveling dungeons, so that people can experience a difficult dungeon while in mostly leveling gear with a group to test their skill.

I like the direction

Go to your battle net client and under “game version” you can switch it between “wrath of the lich king” and “world of warcraft”. That’s the line.

I’d personally play through MoP. That said, I think they should keep going but branch off after Wrath. When Classic was first being talked about someone (Jeremy Feasel I think) said something like “What if the Catacslysm never happened?” I’d be interested to see a world where it didn’t.

I really

laughed at that part though, considering we’re in a Classic thread and every dungeon/raid in Classic (at least up until Ulduar) has a difficulty that can be described as “attendance level” for the most part.
Considering further that you can invent and combine only so much abilities for bosses to have, WoW has delivered some very difficult yet pleasing encounters - a trend that started in Wrath and only excellerated during Cata.

LOL if they actually had the same mindset it would be absolutely mind boggling to watch them “destroy” WoW twice. This is why we have history books. That way we don’t repeat things that were bad.

They have a huge opportunity to release content they were but decided against or never got around to and base it off the systems we currently have, that we all enjoy, ie before it was all dumbed down.
They could run a completely different game based in the same universe, where we never had cata, the war between the horde and alliance got worse (or better) emerald dream etc etc.
I just have grave doubts as to the ability of the current team to deliver it unfortunately, the last few expacs have been trash, we can all agree for the most part, and there hasn’t been any “fun” in the game since legion, its jut habitual logging in and performing tasks. not game play.
And as Brian said on his twitter, he may be the “lead” but he is not the decision maker. they are all a apart of the larger team.

Retail started in TBC and became full on ez mode retail in wrath.

People that say it’s cata only say that because they changed the old world, which you don’t even go back to after tbc, so who cares?

Some of you guys are funny. You think there will be more content for Classic realms? LOLOLOL.

WOW Classic (vanilla) was the only version that made sense, because that content is not in Retail (real WOW) anymore.

BC and Wrath Classic were only released to get more subscribers and to keep people who have become jaded and bitter playing WOW. Which they 100% caused themselves by rushing, powerleveling, grinding, making too many alts and playing too much.

So now we have Classic, BC Classic and Wrath Classic. I believe they will stop with MoP, because that is when the character models changed and we started into the new phase of expansions. Do I want that? Not at all.

The thing is - Millions of us players have ALREADY been enjoying EVERY EXPANSION in Retail. Except for some patch content that went away, there is nothing missing from Retail except for vanilla content. If you want to run ICC or BT like it was, just be the correct level and wear the correct gear and it will be a challenge just like it was.

Classic realms are a museum. You can see how it was when these xpacs were live, which the majority of us have already did since they were live. But there is no progression. Oh yay, you can make a clone to go to next xpac, and another clone to go to the next and so on. Personally, I would rather have a real character experiencing content than a bunch of cloned characters.

There is not going to be a day where Blizzard says “ok, so yeah - now we are developing new content to add on to the classic realms” UMMM NOPE!!! These expansions came and went. If you want to experience them, play WOW Retail. Otherwise you are just playing on a private server that will never connect to the real game.

Why would they put all their effort into the amazing WOW Retail and then also start content for a stagnant realm that is a museum? They wouldn’t.

I miss how vanilla and bc and wrath was but they are OVER. Enjoy them in Retail. Where it matters what you do.

As soon as Wrath started imo, since the classic version has retail features instead of it’s original features and it’s the same game devs instead of the old ones.
