Where are all the healers!

I think I was a reasonably competent resto shaman for years before I decided to hang up the healer hat and become DPS. The way I dealt with toxic DPS in pugs is I let them die a few times. Usually they would shut up after that.

many bis items for healers are spellpower because healers are also expected to dps during downtime, or it’s the only slot option, or it’s a fight over tier tokens.

Like in wrath being on the conq token as a healer waiting on your turn and dying of old age

yes that’s true. things like AQ40 items with multiple class options would always go dps first.

they all went shadow.

Should make shadow trash again so we get all our healers back

This 100%! I main a priest and still get insta pooped on in STV unless I’m in a 5 man full guild group with another healer in discord.

How’s that logic working for the community rn LOL

badges are fine

I played Shadow in p1 even though it sucked tbh. lol

being any healer besides a priest is embarrassing, and they all went shadow . i think if they worked on other heal classes it would improve. with the amount of ret pals LFG im suprised more dont go heals for a raid tho, plenty of loot can be traded in for gear of choice, if only option is to switch spec for a lock out chance. pal heals is alright in pve like u can clear gnomer np, but totally sucks in pvp …

Damage needs a 30% reduction, across the board

Most people enjoy being the hero more than being a support character. It’s really that simple. It’s always been this way. Queues for tank / healer roles in Overwatch have been faster than DPS queues for years. Solo shuffle queues for DPS in retail are 40-60+ minutes while healer queues are instant - 2 minutes.

For the vast majority of players it’s far more fun to pew pew than it is to deal with the stress of trying to keep everyone alive WHILE ALSO being the primary target for the enemy team. In WoW, particularly in classic, most healers are poorly equipped to deal with constantly being focused on by multiple DPS. It’s not a very fun experience at times.

In STV I often end up with 200-300 fewer coins than the rest of my team because I almost always die first. Despite being in Discord and my team peeling for me extremely well, there just isn’t enough self-healing / defenses to deal with being funneled by 3-4 DPS constantly.

In addition, as others have pointed out, healers often get blamed for failure and receive no thanks for success. If you lose, you’re the reason. If you win, you were carried. That’s just the mindset of the average player. It’s a thankless job most of the time.

Playing shadow, moonkin, ele, and ret. God tier specs… I feel your pain, I play warrior…

My man said moonkin is a godtier spec, lmfaooooo

This. Happened in wrath too. My guild gave the healers prio on items, meanwhile the top casters had to wait. Made zero sense

Everyone got mad healer could survive in bgs for 30 seconds. They got nerfed instead of people suggesting buffs to other healers. Now healers get 1 tapped and people decide forget healing.

Healers like tanks have always been hard to find, and SOD certainly hasn’t helped this with most healers getting subpar runes, that are often to costly to use or do little to really help them heal especially in PvP where damage has made healing essentially worthless.

Additional factors that will impact the number of healers

  • Both shaman and paladins now have viable specs other than resto/holy
  • The AOE grinding leveling meta is hard on healers, where often the tanks and DPS want to pull huge groups, to speed up runs by a few minutes at the expense of the healer
  • P2 is still early in the phase, right now people are mainly playing/raiding mains which will often be guided, many alts have not caught up, this will reduce the pool of healers that will run pugs
  • With their being fewer healers, they often will get guild raid spots, so have little need to pug, and are unlikely to want to join a pug they know will struggle, limiting the option of getting them to come back in following weeks
  • GDKP runs have been banned on SoD, like or dislike them, this will likely eliminate some people who might have healed pug raids, though this likely would have limited impact now, but could be seen more as the phase goes on.
  • Some guilds/pugs feel healers shouldn’t deserve gear, why would anyone join a raid that prevents them from having equal access to their BIS items?

The honest answer is shadow priest became a real dps. That’s literally it. All the disc priests from phase 1 moved to shadow and here we are.

Hahahahahaha, ret paladins god tier specs. Oh no, no no no, there is no way the imbeciles that play the spec could ever come close to that.

I did STV for the first time last night and it was awful. The second you let off any healing spells you are swarmed by 2-4 people and pugs do jack all to help you. The best strat I could come up with was to mass regen the party then dive in and spam AE till I died.
