Not all Windows 10 PC’s can just become Windows 11 PC’s by turning on TPM in the BIOS. There are ways around it if the PC does not support 11, but not sure I’d want to go on an unpatched version of Windows in this day and age.
TPM 2.0 oldest officially supported processors series is 8th gen intel or Zen+ (second gen Zen cpu) from AMD
Pretty old, but not deathly old, on the verge of “maybe we should upgrade” but still functioning fine
Correct Gen 7 and older is not supported, though there are work arounds. Not sure I’d be inclined to do so…
im on an i7-9700k and still its putting in the work
thats… one gen past what i was talking lol
like if an 8700k is still functional, a 9700k is going to be lol
Yes that one supports Windows 11. That is the 9th generation. The 7th generation 7700 and below do not officially.
so windows 12 will require an upgrade
You never used Windows 3.0, did you?
I assure you, 3.0 crushed 2.0 like a grape. And 2.0 actually worked (mostly), unlike 1.0.
MS was definitely on a good trend until Windows 95.
oh yeah windows 95 launch, the 4 main people of microsoft dancing on stage
“we billionaires now”
Dang it, now you made me remember Steve Ballmer dancing like a palsied monkey. Thanks.
and now no one actually pays for windows (outside of maybe corps lol)
last two windows were free updates for me
i’ve had to buy one or two for new pcs, but always grey sites, 10% of cost or less
Yeah, I think the last Windows licenses I paid for were Win 7 (new builds, no access to OEM licenses).
Skipped 8, because eww. But 10 turned out to slap, as soon as I got used to it, and neutered the most parasitic and malware bits of it and fixed the grievous UI deficiencies.
8 was awful, but 8.1 wasn’t too bad when they stripped out a bunch of the tablet crap
overall i’d use linux if it played nicely with the games i play, but it doesn’t
You still get Windows Updates, even if you use a requirements bypass to install Windows 11.
The only thing you don’t get is new feature updates. Each feature update is supported for 2 years, during which time you get windows updates like normal. And once that feature update is no longer supported, you just do a quick and free upgrade to the next feature update version. Is it really such a burden to spend 15 minutes upgrading to a new feature update once every 2 years? Hell I just spent 6+ hours fixing my addons in WoW after the 11.1 patch…
If that happened then MS would be demanding subscriptions. They still could, but it’s such an ugly tangle of what to do about customers who drop their sub. I think they’re happy enough with OEM license money and simply getting people into their ecosystem. Office and Teams are their moneymakers.
You can by-pass the requirements and force an install, but just remember, there is nothing that says Microsoft won’t stop it in the future, so proceed at your own risk.
When I am talking about going on an unpatched version of Windows, I am talking Windows 10 after it is no longer supported, not Windows 11 (upgraded by the “work around”).
A Windows 10 pc should sooner become a Linux pc than take the objective downgrade that is Windows 11.
Yeah thats probably for the best anyway
