I will just open this by saying I do not think Midnight is going well. Not even a bit. Everything about this xpack feels rushed, unfinished, bland, and just boring. The reunification of the elves took so little time it was basically a side quest. No effort. No back and forth. What should have been an entire content patch worth of story trying to bring the entire Elven world together was done in what… 8 quests?
On top of that Addon changes. Class changes (imo they really kinda took too much away). Raid complexity changes. Even the loot bonus roll system feels like a mediocre peace offering. The best way I have summed it up to some friends is that we are back in the SL xpack of the cycle.
Legion > BFA > SL
DF > TWW > Midnight
We all know that SL coupled with some other Blizzard incidents at the time delivered a crippling blow to WoWs population that it will never fully recover from. However in DF it was a constant series of pulling ripcords to give players things that genuinely made the game better. Cross Faction guilds being a prime example.
The real question for Blizzard is how do I skip Korthia (Which is what this .7 patch is really with its two “New Zones”), skip the SL experience, and get back to the goodness that was DF? Xal’Atath is just the Jailer 2.0, and is just as bland. She doesnt even come off as a threat, just an annoyance we are forced to listen to and “Deal With” as we perpetually just fall right into her plans perfectly. Woo.
Oh and please dont make Iridikron a dungeon boss. He was actually a cool character with some depth to him. I predict he will die like Garrosh in some side quest of an unimportant area, but I do hope he gets the attention and the wicked fight he deserves.
