When to stun in m+

This advice applies to any cc or stop aoe or otherwise.

If someone(including you) has a kick available please do not stun the mob. Let them kick or use your own.

Kicks lock mobs out of that spell for a set amount of time. Where a stun will just let the mob recast. But there are times when you should stun.

Use your stun when:
-No one has a kick. This will delay the cast and hopefully a kick will be available then.
-Some spells cast first and then channel. If you stun during the cast then they will recast but if you stun during the channel the spell will go on cooldown.
-The spell can’t be kicked (uninterruptable)
-The mob is casting a filler spell between their dangerous one. Not reason not to use your spells and abilities to overwhelm the enemy!
-You and your team have worked out a rotation to lock down a pack of mobs and it’s your turn to stun. Don’t listen to me! Follow your group’s plan!

The danger of stunning instead of kicking is:

-Baiting a teamate’s kick. They kick just after you stun wasting their kick and the mob just recasts instead of being locked out.
-Mobs go on stun diminishing returns(dr) and then stuns either stop working or because they can’t be used at their full duration they can’t achieve the goal of the stunner. (I cry when I have to kite an enforcer in Grim Batol because of stun DR).

Thanks for reading. Good luck on your vault today.

Good post. I feel like some creators should make a video on this because it would help the community, or at least those who are willing to go on youtube and watch these sorta things to improve their gameplay.

yea but on the same side of that coin. ive seen a castbar nearly reach completion and noone kicks, so i stun. im NOT gonna trust other members of a pug to kick 1/2 way through a cast.

I haven’t done any serious keys since SL but is it no longer literally the point to pull 3-4 packs behind a pillar or wall, drop incap totem the. Leg sweep and they are dead before any of them can act

Don’t kicks have silence DR as well?

They added DR to PvE? That’s CRAZY lol

I don’t have an addon that tells me what people have available. I will scream when I wanna :slightly_smiling_face:

Kicks don’t DR, no. Blanket silences might?

you and everybody else that is trying to do M+ based on hopes and dreams.

Just get a kick tracker if you want to be useful.
If not, no worries- delves are for you.

Pffft, dbm and details are where I draw the line. I might hit 3k this season, maybe not. I will time all my 10s eventually though.

The kick will always interrupt. The silence that follows very likely has a shared DR. I’m presuming that means Priest silence becomes useless if kicks are spammed.

I mean I get where OP’s coming from, they’re not wrong. The problem is the real advice is do more DPS. So many subpar DPS players out here.

this is why i stun every time as prot war. aoe stunning packs myself is much more reliable then waiting and hoping random pugs will be good enough to know any of this because 99% of the time pugs are clueless

On cooldown

I understand. Just make sure that you understand, you are the problem. Nothing personal.

I think the hardest part is coordination with other players.

I’ve gotten chewed out in more than one M+ for “not interrupting enough”. What really happens is that I interrupt a lot – often milliseconds after someone else does. Meaning my interrupt gets wasted. Then I have to wait for my CD.

This happens more often than I actually get interrupts through. It’s frustrating, and if anyone has tips on how to mitigate this other than the obvious voice communication (not always an option, and it probably gets tedious), please share!

lol. ‘Nothing personal, it’s just you.’

Love it.

I main healer and I am doing just fine, don’t worry.

This big old post and this is really what it boils down to at the end of the day ^

That’s not what I said, and you don’t have to be saucy.
A kick tracker or WA is standard for anyone looking to pull their weight.
I told you, I understand, you and the majority others aren’t really trying, which is literally the problem in m+.

Good post OP, but most of these issues can be offset if Blizzard would design interrupts to work like dispels where you can’t overlap them.

I know you are looking to attack someone because you are feeling saucy(I might be an little too actually :slightly_smiling_face:) and I am here announcing I don’t track so it makes me an easy target in your eyes. However, I have seen some pretty goofy dps and healed through some serious shenanigans…and come out on top. So, I am going to be ok, and you will be too I am sure.

Great observation, thank you. I always wondered why this wasn’t the case! I mean, if there is nothing to be interrupted, why do I lose my interrupt? I don’t lose a purge or dispel in the analogous situations. (I know I’m just repeating what you said, but I guess I am just trying to make it make sense to myself!)
