WoW’s barber shop lets me overhaul my character completely as long as I remain the same race. Anytime. For a pittance of in-game currency.

In FFXIV, you can only change your hair in-game without having to pay. Want to change your eye color or make one eye blind? Pay up!

I played FFXIV from ARR to base Endwalker before I quit. It has its strengths but character customization is not one of them.

Really? Do you remember you used to have to pay $15 to change your hair color/style or facial features in game? Do you also remember if you wanted to change your character’s gender, it used to cost $10? Now those are free with the barbershop which also doesn’t cost gold anymore.

The only “racials” that races have in FF XIV are racial stats, and they don’t matter a whole lot.

I guess that makes a little more sense if Blizzard is taking actual racial traits into account. Still, I’d probably knock $5 off that price tag if I were them. But I’m not them, so yeah. lol

Final Fantasy XIV:

-Adds a new race (or, rather, adds female option to a race that was previously male-only), gives everybody a free phantasia (an item that you use that triggers a race change, normally $5 IIRC).

World of Warcraft:

-Adds a new Allied Race, makes you pay $25 to change race.

So by your logic.

Blizzard created a whole new race with both genders on top of a boat load of customization options for their new race and was produced on time with an expansion.

And

XIV just came out with the female version of a race that was incomplete but they gave you something free for a pre existing race that should of been out on time.

Mmmmmmmmm sounds like Blizzard players are winning over here and XIV is getting shafted.

That’s the point. You can make alts to have so many looks, match race to class. Can’t do that in 14, can’t even change your skin or eye color without fantasia. It’s common to joke about “fanta addiction”, we all know that guy who is a different thing every week.

So you know you can just level up an allied race right? The only one MAKING you pay for the race change is you. Not Blizzard. Don’t be lazy and that’s not a problem. Mountain out of a mole hill. Any and all arguments you have, while leveling is so easy and fast, are invalid in this subject.

This is how it’s been long before Final Fantasy XIV was even in development.
Another thing, Warcraft is incredibly easy to get any character up to max level. Like you can literally 1-70 that new race coming out within 12 hours or less. So yeah, race change is really only there for the lazy whales (the money kind) and not needed in the slightest for anyone that puts even a minor amount of effort in.

tbf I’ve never played FFXIV, so i don’t know how it works, but with Warcraft? Complaining about a $25 race change is like complaining about the $25 mounts, or the $30 guild stuff. Or any of the other micro-transactions they’ve had for 10+ years.

Anyways, it’s $50 USD to buy both the story skip and a class spec in FF14. That takes a [potentially] 200 hour story/leveling grind and makes it a 10ish hours grind (Give or take) for the current expansion’s story/leveling.

So naw, you don’t want an alt in that game. It’s abysmal. There are benefits to having one but you have to ask yourself if it’s $50 (Or 200 hours) worth of benefits.

Viera and Hrothgar were single gendered everywhere else in the FF games, player feedback pushed SE to implement opposite genders for both.

Keep being wrong if you want to though, SE listening to player feedback must scare you as a WoW player I know.

Go farm enough gold and you wont have to pay for your sub, your race change, or another blizzard game ever again.

Time is money, and they went out of their way to make crafting/gathering race to the bottom garbage. Gold farms rarely exceed 20k/hr and to be blunt, you’re dumb if you are grinding for the equivalent of 2 dollars an hour.

There are dubious benefits to having alts in that game, since every character can level every class to max, and swap freely between them. There’s a potential argument that time gated currency locks you into one “role”, but that’s still 4+ classes per role to play with at maximum efficiency.
