When should flying be unlocked in an expansion?

I’ll show myself out…

They don’t like to use gold anymore because there’s so much of it free-floating out there, and yet it’s mostly concentrated in the hands of a few. But heck, I’ll even do an alternate-currency grind, as long as I can reasonably get enough of said currency in the launch patch.

None of these dribbles of 5 anima at a time, and it costs 100k anima, where if you math it out it would actually take years and functions as a soft timegate. If they’re going to do an alternate currency for purchase, then it needs to be earnable by an average player in a reasonable time frame.

Right when you hit max level just like in MoP or at worst within a month of expansion release.

I see no point in waiting 9 months for flying and by that time having levelled up 10 or more characters.

At the very latest it should be available once you have “cleared” the launch patch. I don’t necessarily think as soon as you hit max level, but I do think the moment your main has done pretty much all of the main exploration stuff, all your characters should have flying.

By that I mean once you’ve finished the leveling campaign (not the time gated covenant campaigns, but the main storylines of each zone), have the entire map explored for each of the zones, and MAYBE collected like… 50% of the treasures, or at least found certain set treasures that required jumping puzzles to reach or something. Don’t even reputation gate it. Just reward exploration. The devs claim the reason why they don’t like flying is that we ignore all the world design, right? Then there should be no problem unlocking flying once we’ve seen and experienced that world design. For the lazy there’s always getting one of their more industrious friends to pull out a 2 seater mount, after all.

But under no circumstances should we be forced to wait upwards of 2 patches for Blizz to arbitrarily flick the switch and make it unlockable. I don’t mind the pathfinder system, even with reputation gating, but I do not think it’s ok to make us wait for a later patch to finish it. It should be launch content.

Oh, and of course, once a new expansion is released, just flat out unlock flying for everyone in the previous expansion. I know some people who still don’t have WoD or Legion flying and that sounds incredibly painful. If it’s not current expansion, unlock flying. Simple as that.

As soon as you hit max level & purchase flying from the trainer… then allow boa items to be mailed to alts so they can train flying & use it for their leveling.

At launch, anyone saying anything else is trolling.

Once you have flying just keep it enabled, other MMOs with flying dont randomly disable it in new content till you meet some arbitrary requirements they just build 3d content that leverages flying and usually allow combat while in flight so you farm flying mobs as well as land ones for quests, doesnt it seem odd that most flying mobs fly so close to the ground that melee classes can aggro them?

We got flying in WoTLK before cap. You got it in Storm Peaks at level 78.

And to answer the main question, we should get flying when hitting level cap, purchased with gold. Period. End of discussion.

Tired of them using flying as a carrot in a stick.

You should be able to get it the second you hit max level.

If they are going to keep with some form of PathFinder ( Which they most likely will)

Make it so that each part opens flying in the zones it represents.

For Release

Start at launch
Complete story line for patch
Completely explore initial zones of expansion
Reach max level
THen flying in initial zones

First Patch

Complete story
Explore zones
Maybe find some treasures.

Then flying in new zones .

It should be unlocked at the very first day of the expansion. It should be avaiable since level 30 to all places of the game actually. Or wrost case scenario when you hit max level in that expansion.
Pathfinder putting mildly is the single most stupid feature that any mmorpg has ever adpoted.
Game has flying why not simple design the game thinkin’ about it instead of pretending this doesn’t exist? makes 0 sense to me. This was never an issue till blizzard made it be one.
I think its cool to pathfinder give you mounts but be mandatory to flying? stupid, simple put it is legit stupid.

This automatically!

Having flying at max gives saves us time to go places, level our alts and brings appeal to the game. The reason why I am playing more than before is because of flying. They need to stop time gating because that concept alone been plaguing the game forever. If Ion does another time gating etc nonsense then he needs to be demoted back to what he’s only good at. Quit with the metric bull crap unless there’s fun in it for the audience to appreciate.

there should be no flying in future expansions. can unlock it as the expansion is no longer current but never while it’s live.

Ion had a very good idea back in Legion. Flying would be in ALL zones of the expac and the pathfinder unlock would occur after the .3 patch to the expansion. Everyone can be happy and enjoy their earned flight.

When you quest through the zones and complete their main quests, just liker FFXIV.

If I was running the game, flying would be unlocked for each character (not account) after that character has completed all the exploration, quests and one run of each dungeons (any level) in the base game zones, find a flying trainer and pay a couple of thousand gold.

It should be unlocked immediately max level after exploring all of the zones available at that patch. And when each new zone gets out, we won’t be able to fly in that zone until we’ve explored all of it. Kinda like what FFXIV has except it’s points you have to find in a zone to fly in that zone I think.

And also if they want to make a somewhat PvP zone, there shouldn’t be any flying whatsoever. Nazjatar PvP was the worse because of that.

I was fine with max level and it never was really a problem prior to cata. Renown worked well enough for me but I will say I was about 85% more likely not to do WQs when I couldn’t fly because of the heinous terrain.

I would be fine with no flying if the world were as accessible as vanilla, ie you could actually climb mountains and stuff. Instead they give us sheer cliffs and endless switchbacks that make it feel like flying is necessary.

I like flying but if the devs don’t they’ve done a very poor job of making the world fun without it. I never did a pathfinder, and still wouldn’t, but I would be lying if I said getting rid of those didn’t make the game way better for me.

Lesson learned: If you don’t like something don’t do it, if enough people are not doing it then things will change.

It should be available to unlock on day one of a expansion.
The requirements to unlock it should be as followed.

  1. Be at level cap
  2. Complete the storylines in each zone (earn achievement for it)
  3. Earn achievement for exploring every zone.

That way, we see every zone, and experience every storyline, from the ground
as they wish.

Ion and the experts dont agree. It should be after the .3 patch of an expansion.
