do you mean in the game or the forum
No one in their right mind would dare speak in chat nowadays for fear of any little thing they say being taken wrong and being mass reported into oblivion. I for one came back only because the game is taking a more solo play route and I can avoid the toxic community and play how I desire without the headaches of the current type of player base.
I think it had something to do with the way realms became interconnected. It was different when everyone you talked to in trade chat was also in the portal room waiting for for Wintergrasp.
Because you can be reported for just about anything now. Everyone gets offended by everything. A game suspension isnât worth engaging in funny banter with people. Same goes for in real life, same issues-- People get offended by everything now.
I still see banter in dungeons sometimes.
Exactly what I said just above you. I came back to play solo because the community is not worth playing with.
BRING BACK BARRENS CHAT! Chuck Norris anyone?
Edit: I just realized how badly I dated myself!
Community is still there, community is what you make of it.
In 2004 my community was mostly my guild, in 2024 same thing
Because it isnât necessary to play the game. That is when it died. They automated the communication part, negating the need to form even temporary communities to do content. Without those seeds, the trees could not grow.
On the one hand, video gaming is for video gaming and not for much talking. Streaming seemed to have supplanted it. Well, back when it was Nintendo/Sega/PlayStation/XBox and Win 95/98/XP, you picked up a game and played it. It was almost never socialized unless by magazines and the odd TV programming such as G4. People only really talked about the game.
So I can respect the silence that comes from honest engagement to task. This is supposed to be WARCRAFT, not SECOND LIFE. So thatâs the one hand I find the lack of communication not a problem.
The other hand, I can appreciate socializing. As I came from the old-school, off-topic stuff was done differently. Like going to a party. How often does that happen? Donât we all spend quite too much onlineâŚ
While that was annoying, it is still engagement with others beyond the scope of what is absolutely necessary to play the game. Stupid social nonsense is exactly how you seed friendships and a community.
If people want 4chan quality crap, please go visit 4chan. Keep it away from the rest of us. Thanks.
I think a few years back there was a point where the forums were down for a few days. And on the 3rd day they rose again.
It died when people decided they can say and do anything they want because it is âfunnyâ and if you donât agree you have âno humor or youâre a Karenâ.
Just because it had lows, doesnât mean there were no highs. If you would discard the later to avoid the former, then the game community is right where you want it.
You sound bitter. This is exactly the type of take Iâd expect from a person who has drank the âmaturedâ Kool Aid lmfao and yes youâre right itâs SO much better now with the insane chat spam of these-
âBUY MYTHIC CARRY NOWâ
âBUY POWER LEVELING HEREâ
âMUST MAKE A PROFIT FOR MY RENT XXXX HEREâ
Absolutely the mentality that makes this game less fun and anti-social presented right here.
? No one can say whatever they want in this game. It hasnât been that way in a decade⌠wut???
I wouldnât know what general/trade chat is like, these days. I turned it off in WoD to escape the stupid toilet humor you seem so fond of. Itâs been turned off ever since. Donât miss it.
The newer generations that are playing now have horrible social skills. Lol
ESO and FFXIV both say hi, explain mechanics if people donât know them, and say gg or tyfg/tyfp at the end of a dungeon/trial/raid.
Most people have cute messages to display when a dungeon (etc) starts and ends.
People tell jokes and talk about random stuff during cutscenes in FFXIV.
The not talking is a WoW problem. Not an MMORPG problem.
