If I were to go into Booty Bay and kill someone, the guards would become hostile.
If I were to kill the guards, I could lose rep with that faction.
Now, if I were to go into Seekers Vista or Rustbolt and kill someone, the guards would, once again, become hostile.
However, if I were to kill the guards, I would not lose rep with Tortollan Seekers or Rustbolt Resistance respectively.
When did Blizzard change it so that killing guards no longer give rep?
I would assume TBC since I don’t remember losing rep since then, but I never fully tested that (plus I don’t remember if Aldor/Scryers caused you to gain or lose rep by killing guards).
Anyone know?

Think that was just a Vanilla thing. Which is kind of a shame. I bet it’d cut down quite a bit on the Mechagon griefing if killing guards there lost you rep.

also kinda fix the whole defending myself but guards still attack me thing
when you fight back the guards
Popping shots from the tower and hopping in the instance portal when you get hit isn’t pvp silly.

A better question is why are guards the most useless NPCs in this game.
They exist to be leeched off of.
For Booty Bay, you can still do the quest line and get into the lower leveled instanced version of it which you’ll loose rep for killing bruisers. People do it this way currently for Insane in the Membrane.
This has only been the case for Booty Bay. Are you confusing EverQuest with WoW, maybe?
