I literally agree.
Because Vaush said it a billion times (probably other “breadtubers” too I don’t know who started it but vaush is the one that I saw it from first) and his little baby brain audience started to parrot the big impressive word because “LOL JK” Was apparently no cap not poggers enough for the lit intellectuals that browse twitch and tiktok
That one genuinely bothers me because people’s misuse has removed a tool of precise communication for me. When I say “literally” to mean exactly what I’m saying, people don’t know whether I’m being literal or just adding emphasis…and there isn’t a clear alternative for “literal” that isn’t cumbersome.
This one makes me want to break things lol.
ITS A VERB. CRINGE IS A VERB.
The millenial use of cringe as an adjective makes me cringe.
“This is cringe” NO.
“This is cringy” Okay
“This is cringeworthy” Yes!
Cringe post NGL.
While the misuse of language is certainly a thing that happens I should point out that if enough people do it in the same way over time the definition of the word will change.
I can’t think of the last time someone used the word ‘gay’ to mean happy instead of referring to something LGBTQ+, unless trying to deliberately sound out of touch or working with limited vocabulary and trying to rhyme.
I guess what I’m saying is- try not to let it bother you, we all know what they are trying to communicate, isn’t that what really matters?
Adapt, or get left behind.
That’s my opinion on this topic.
fr fr on god no cap.
I’m still guilty of some of these but you’d be surprised how many times this song saved me from saying something wrong lol
One of the best songs ever made.
Plus, I hate the original.
Same. Granted I admit I still goof a bit in text. I reference it a lot with the “Like I could care less. That means you do care. At least a little” lyric lol
Or Irony with coincidence
If you look closely, he’s taking a dig at Alanis Morissette.
It shows tiny stick figures getting rained on wearing wedding clothes.
“IT’S LIKE RAAAAAAAIIIIIIIN ON YOUR WEDDING DAY!”
Hehe yeah I like that joke
Congratulations on entering the “old man yells at clouds” phase of your life OP.
Damn kids with your mee-mees and gifts.
There’s a really good blurred lines parody on YouTube. I forget what it’s called but it’s easy to find.
Languages evolve. Personally I like using “literally” and partially because it annoys fuddy duddies.
used in an exaggerated way to emphasize a statement or description that is not literally true or possible
Linguistics change over time.
It’s not misused anymore. It’s simply a new meaning.
Mmhmm. The internet has begun changing words.
As an English major, it’s obnoxious. As a Linguistics minor, it’s fascinating.
No cap fam I literally unironically use the word unironically so much fr
Unironically I have literally no idea what you’re talking about.
It was huge in August 2005 it looks like but has been relatively popular since 2016:
