“Evolution” of language.
Cap no longer just refers to a cap for a container. It also apparently means lying etc.
Several words that are now considered “hate speech” once meant…a bundle of sticks, a cigarette and happy, later referring to stuff that was stupid etc, so. Now they mean something completely different as we all know.
Gaslight was a good example mentioned.
Cringe.
Id say its all under the umbrella of slang language with a meaning outside of the one it is intended to have and of course context is everything.

I like the phrase…Could care less. We know what the person is saying but that literally says that you could care less than you currently do. Verse Couldn’t care less.
