Current Logs are showing the bottom six specs as:
Arcane
Havoc
Destro
Frost
Fury
Assassination
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/zone/statistics/26/#dataset=90
(Using 90th Percentile; 95th and Overall are very similar in representation with Arms falling behind Arcane on 95th, but Arms is also getting a buff . . .)
Tuning change going out the 15th:
Arcane: Nothing
Havoc: All damage abilities increased by 5%.
Destro: Chaos Bolt damage increased by 22%.
Frost: Nothing
Fury: All damage abilities increased by 5%.
Assassination: All damage abilities increased by 5%.
They buffed four out of the six bottom specs, and did not touch mage. Also, not to mention that Affliction is outperforming Fire with Demo ahead of both Arcane and Frost.
Supposedly tuning is still “in progress” but I’m not expecting much.

If you look at 95th percentile, Arcane is actually 7th from the bottom and the new 6th Arms also got buffed.

Either this is a very early tuning draft, or they just simply forgot that Covenants and Legendaries exist, not a single change done to them.
I actually was just editing to reflect that
Let’s relax. We can’t stay in the bottom forever. I do hope they aren’t done with the tuning though. Mages need some love. Frost and arcane especially.

No we can’t but I’m also approaching a point where I need to craft a legendary, or switch to a new class. I’m hesitant to craft anything with Fire just because of how nerf happy Blizzard is when it comes to Mages. I’m happy I didn’t fall into the Slick Ice—Venthyr—Frost Crowd as of right now . . . a bit worried to touch Arcane in terms of leggos because of where it is sitting. Like any indication of them just looking at Mages would be great.

“In particular, we’re considering tweaks to several classes’ Torghast powers.”
Anyone want to take bets on Arcane in Torghast? I haven’t had the worst time with it, but Level Six was a bit challenging to do solo. I am not sure I could have beat the last boss solo on level 6 without wraps.
I believe Blizzard has a clear strategy to reduce mage population.

It’s pretty effective. I mean even for those who enjoyed Fire in 8.3, it feels like a terrible spec to play right now. Manual ignite feels awful. The lack of haste makes the spec feel so slow. Having to use PF in your combustion window isn’t fun. The spec itself is mediocre right now, and who knows what its leggos could go through.
Arcane is 100% used to this treatment.
Frost players had their hopes up, Nerfbat came, but it didn’t crush their dreams—this week seemed to snap some back into a reality about the class as a whole.

Maybe, but I will still rock my mage.

Checking in. Yeah I’m not forcing my frost mage on my guild’s progression raiding team even though it’s still relatively casual, it’s just too embarassing. Fingers crossed for some buffs soon else I’ll dust off my boomy from Bfa.
Your Boomkin is top 3 in both ST and AOE.

You sure on that? You must not have been frost/arcane in BFA lol.

Just did first 3 bosses as frost mage. I was number 2-2-3.
But it could be that we were all new. Second boss has a gimmick that boost your dps quite a bit.
Not meaning to be rude, but what you were in your raid is not an objective statistic. Just because you were number two does not mean that you are good or that the spec is good, it could very well be the case that your group was bad, and you were slightly better. Now I’m not saying that is the case, but it’s an example of how a subjective, anecdote, isn’t indicative of anything meaningful when speaking about a class/spec as a whole. Meaningful to you? Maybe . . . but just going off of someone saying “I topped the meters” . . . that’s cool and good for you, but it isn’t really that significant in terms of data.

Aye, I played frost, on the first raid tier, until I swapped to melee.
When look at something like this I want to know what the Top Guilds think. Do any of them have mages in progression?

That’s my point. I think a good part of it had to do with the fact that everyone was new to the raid.
First boss I was around 3.7k dps during burst phase goes up to 6.5-7k.
Second boss was 7.2k due to the the shade
Third boss I can’t remember now.
Not saying frost is fine cuz it’s far from fine and very well could be our raid team was not good.
And remember these are the boss kill numbers. We attempted many times and few times I was dead last due to proc not being around.
I think the issue is the rng of our procs
I have to agree. Mages not being absolutely amazing at everything feels really weird. It’s like the rotational axis of Azeroth is off or something. Im sure it will be fixed soon.
