that site says 7365 total players on fair banks the other site says 34727 total players…soo again how are people taking these sites seriously at all?
No it doesn’t.
It says that IT has records of that many characters being active over the past 2 weeks… not that there are that many characters total.
Maybe they have at least a rudimentary understanding of how you sample a large population.
I am literately looking at it say fairbanks 7365 players total…and also on that sites FRONT PAGE it says
Important note: this project relies on Warcraftlogs API
This means, only players/guilds seen in logs are available
You act like that dont mater because of-cores everyone logs information in to it
The most accurate and 100% accurate are two different things. Bringing up “100% accuracy” is a strawman because no one says that. Saying that its VERY accurate but not 100% accurate can co-exist as both being correct statements.
It’s nothing like that. Census data is collected data, it’s not people making up numbers and putting them on a website.
Except you haven’t even read the big highlighted words at the top that specifically say:
TWO WEEKS
I never suggested everyone logs information on warcraftlogs, though.
What part of “sample” are you finding difficult to grasp?
2 different sites 2 different numbers on population for the same server so witch one is the even remotely accurate one?
its only showing the people giving them the data
Lets say there is a server with 100 people on it 50 horde 50 alliance and lets say 20 alliance give them data that they are there and 40 horde give them data that they are there…then they say OMG this server is so imbalanced LOOK THERE ARE 20 alliance and 40 horde that is literately a tabloid headline…
With respect, that information is both inaccurate and out of date.
There is no current way for anyone to know the balance of their server.
I’m going to jump in here and point out that this question has already been fully answered for you. Please don’t browbeat other people with it.
Data from the census addon doesn’t require individual players to upload their own characters. It uses the /who functionality built into the game to poll the whole server.
You are clueless…Let’s say there is a server with 100 people on it and just FIVE people are running the data. Polling the server at different times of the day we have
24 total people on at 7am
60 total people on at 2pm
80 total people on at 8pm
40 total people on at 2am
The people recorded through the day are pooled together giving a total of 95 different people on during the day of 48 horde 47 alliance.
It’s not 100% accurate but it’s the most accurate.
Didn’t they break that a while ago so it no longer works so not only is the information wrong but outdated?
They restricted the direct API call so that addons couldn’t access it directly. However, the addon adjusted (along with others like FGI) to piggyback off of the way the interface ITSELF calls the API function.
Basically, instead of using SendWho(), it’s just doing /who and looking at the contents of the /who window.
Which is capped at 50 per zone.
You don’t simply /who the zone you can also filter by level and class.
https://wowclassicpopulation.com/characters
Why do you think the website keeps track of Level, Class, Race?
Still doubt that this is very accurate.
About as accurate than a National Census is. And that’s also not even close to 100% accurate.
You can filter according to the race, class, level, zone, and even the first letter(s) of the name.
So I can search for all level 15-18 tauren hunters in mulgore whose names start with ‘r’.
The addon looks at the results it’s seeing and narrows the search if it gets 50 characters back.
lolwut???
It doesn’t have to be accurate to give us a good idea of the overall demographics.
I don’t need to see 100% of the server in order to have decent confidence that the population ratio is around 60/40. It’s possible to extrapolate from a decent sample size.
A census can be accurate enough to be a reliable source of information without needing to be 100% accurate. The strawmen are real.
Ok lets say that I log on to this toon in the morning and then switch to an alt and play that for a few hours get bored then switch to another alt… do I count as 3 people according to that addon how many alts are counted in them numbers …again its not only not accurate its not even close.
