Why would they spend a bunch of money to put in cheap voice acting when most players don’t read quest text and don’t listen to the voice acting they do have?
no. ai should never replace creative work. its already an issue with digital art.

Executives do little work on the game, and make all the money.
In turn, the players do all the work in the game, and make none of the money.
Same. Leave the AI to players wanting to meme.
Voice actors are already treated like crap.

Their excuse is that Stealing voice actor voices with AI is extremely grey and could come back to bite them a few years down the line when proper legislation is in place.
Voice actors are already getting pissy that people are making memes with the AI. I don’t have any doubt that they’d sue if anyone used their voice commercially through the AI.
I think AI voice acting is fantastic for memes and modding, but for commercial purposes it’s a nono, just go hire some voice actors.

I don’t think there will be any “stealing” in the future, just adjust some settings and make your own unique voice. For every “Morgan Freeman” who was discovered there are probably thousands of great voices who were not, or who were never even born. In the far future maybe parents will be able to choose the voice of their kid before he even exists. Ya the future is scary, maybe in a million years we will be able to create life, planets and solar systems and design our own universe, and some people in it could be playing WoW.

Think this way. AI created to monitor social media behavior learns to hate humanity because it was taught to by what it learned from the one sided censorship from the tech giants.
The AI made the decision to wipe out humanity to save the planet and all but a few survivors were wiped out.
Maybe closer to Skynet but without making robots.

Why bother having an AI voice all the quest text when nobody reads or cares about the quest text anyway?
I dunno why you guys are suddenly pretending like you do, I know you don’t. You know how many people I see out in the world killing mobs for like 10 minutes straight to complete a quest only to finally realize they need to use a quest item on them?
I’d like a revamp of questing, and more voice acting and if it’s sounding good etc and voice actors in real life still do their share in a game then I’m fine with that since I know Blizz will never want to fork out the $$ to voice act everything and with this kind of tech it would help do just that.

It sounds great but wait until the AI pronounces a word incorrectly, or sounds like another similar sounded. Then have the whole community scream discrimination, or racism over it.

While cool and interesting this goes against saag/actra rules assuming they signed an agreement.
I like the idea of AI for audio and we’re slowly implementing aspects of it into workflows but the performances are not there yet. In 10 years who knows?
The biggest job loss will be people doing audio books and dubbing.
I could definitely see this being a deliverable in the next ten years too.
Royalty checks to voice actors and the time money to find hire said actors.
Also if for one reason or another any actor refuses to do a character end up with a swtor situation and having to basically delete a character for years.
They probably understand that there isn’t really a high demand for voice acting in every day quests.

However it shouldn’t be impossible to implement tags that can tell the generator to change it’s tone.
But yeah, ideally they should stick to professional/practised voice actors and leave these things to text-heavy filler or stuff rogue-likes like dwarf fortress.
And as for the hands bit. Not too surprising seeing how everyone sucks at drawing hands in their own way. Sometimes 4 fingers, peculiar angels, peculiar joints, two hands holding/overlapping each other causing the fingers to now be 10…
