What’s your resolution scale at
100%
I should also note that I’m trying to play today with the graphics settings at max, just to see. It’s not a LOT worse on 10 than it is on 7 with regard to the jumpiness, but it is a bit.
Wish I could see on screen what you’re describing
Actually a good test might be to record gameplay on your gpu, (assuming the recording doesn’t affect your performance enough to throw the test) and uplo6 to YouTube and see if it plays properly to others?
If it’s display related that should remove that variable that way.
Yeah, I actually did that two years ago on my other system, and the jitter was there in the recording as well (that recording is still online, ~https://www.reddit.com/link/924ihg/video/noafrg5exbc11/player). It’s not that bad on my new system, but it’s still there.
The fact that this new system is basically showing me the same thing as the old one was (though I am able to set the graphics to a higher level overall) makes me wonder if it’s just something that my eyes are sensitive to that other people don’t see. In which case, a new monitor isn’t going to do a thing (except be bigger, which is not a bad thing right now either, as I’ve had to increase the UI scale here recently to be able to read things!).
I truly appreciate the help, and either way, these monitors are probably 12 years old now so it’s not like I haven’t gotten my money’s worth out of them! One of them even has very faint but permanent vertical lines in it now, so I can hardly say it would be a waste to have new ones.
I think I see what you’re talking about.
It’s not very smooth - hard to say if it’s just recording fps bitrate or that’s the way you are seeing it - but I can tell you my game doesn’t feel that way.
I’ll try to upload a video to see if it will be different than yours, but it’s likely youtube will screw the frame rate anyway
That’s really what it looks like (or did on the old system), so I don’t think the recording is making it worse. The new system is smoother, but not perfect.
Edit: it’s also worse on the new system if the graphics are higher, like it’s worse on 10 than it is on 7.
so in dalaran like that it should be mostly GPU-bound, and not a CPU issue. Especially with nobody around.
I am running on the same CPU as you (a bit higher OC) and a 5700 XT - now the 5700xt should be only around ~25% faster than your GPU.
Here’s my dalaran video, 1440p, max settings (except only FXAA) Recording is at 33.6mbps/60fps, so i guess that’s not going to be completely indicative of actual performance. I’ve enabled the framerate counter to show framerate.
and in 14 with the same settings:
I think 14 is a bit smoother in general, and it may be youtube post processing screws up the results here, but I think your issue is more to mouse sensitivity than it is the game graphics.
Also might take a minute for youtube to finish processing the HD versions.
You know, I did investigate the mouse sensitivity at various times over the years, with both the old and new PCs. I never could get to a point where it was “perfectly smooth” though. Tried in game settings as well as custom settings on the Logitech G500 that I’ve had for years too (yes, my mouse is old too but still works, and a newer one doesn’t make the issue go away, sadly).
Thanks for the videos! It’s hard to tell (probably because of the post processing, as you say) but at this point, I’m leaning toward this being a “me” issue. If I was sitting at your computer, I might be seeing the same jitter and jumpiness that I see on mine, because it’s just something that happens to bother my eyes but doesn’t bother everyone’s. It makes my eyes feel like they’re vibrating! And of course, that’s what stops me from buying new monitors when the ones I have are working mostly fine.
Newer displays have better eye care technology. It’s possible newer displays might reduce your eye strain.
Also very true! And there is the size as well, because it would be lovely to go up to 27". I guess if I did get new monitors and it didn’t help at all, then I’d know it really was a PBKAC issue!
lol well, we’ve all been there.
Go ultra wide! MSI Optix MPG341CQR 34" 3440x1440, free sync, HDR400, 1ms for $799. Seen other brands as low as $220 for 30" UW
The 34 UW is same height size as a 27" just wider. Though I don’t think a new monitor will get rid of those jitters going on like in the video you posted.
Can try video card drivers and motherboard drivers/bios… I forget what I did when my laptop got that issue as well after swapping out for a new M2 SSD.
Yeah, I might look into ultra wide, though I’d have to have G-Sync.
The drivers are all up to date, and of course this was happening on a brand new build as well.
