What's Changing (and Not!) in Season 2

Done to avoid any unfairness? Like the horde got when this all started?

Will the horde get it first again?

Except these warfronts are supposed to be representative of an ongoing battle between Alliance & Horde and are a “major” feature of the expansion and the fact that we’re only able to queue for the scenario once a month really means that they should scale up & remain relevant for the duration of the expansion.

They’re scaling up dungeon difficulty & rewards for the same reason, to keep them relevant. By not scaling up Arathi, almost no one will queue for it making queue times longer and longer until it’s all but abandoned, which is a complete waste of content (regardless of your personal feelings about the warfronts)

Hi Ion,

Can you clarify if residium will be provided in the weekly pvp boxes? If so, can we assume that higher rating tiers will provide residium equivalent to a mythic 10 (or higher) key? An example is provided below.

Combatant = Mythic ~2/3 residium
Challenger = Mythic 4/5 residium
Rival = Mythic 6/7 residium
Duelist = Mythic 7/8 residium
Elite/Gladiator = Mythic 10 residium

This could be an opportunity to help drive up PVP participation and ensure people don’t just stop once they’ve completed their seasonal goals (mounts/armor transmog).

Looking forward to the patch!

Thank you for the heads up Ion. It was a nice surprise to see your name on the blue post. :grinning:

In LFR, the person being traded to has to be eligible for loot.
If they’ve already killed a particular boss in a previous group, they won’t be eligible to receive anything other than their own bonus rolls on kills.

I would love to know more details on what is contained within Emissary Armor cache’s, Emissary Azerite Armor caches, and potentially see some variety so I don’t always get the same azerite piece over and over and over and over again.

I’m curious as to why the Armor Cache’s don’t contain rings or trinkets. And I wonder how “random” it actually is when I cant count on getting the same piece of gear on all three of my plate wearers…

So first I want to say thank you for this. This is one of the best communications you guys have done in a long time. Let alone since your Q&A when you said you would work on communication. Hopefully this is a start to more open communications.

But I agree with a lot of the questions being asked. Why not scale up arathi at all? When a dungeon drops the same ilvl gear it will be pointless to do the arathi warfront. Why does the prices of azerite gear get so inflated and the scraping value deflated? As pointed out by Stormbind. This really seems counter productive to what is attempting to be done with the vendor. Why do we have to wait for 8.1.5 for ZT and KT when we can finish all requirements after battle for dalar’alor is released? Is there any plan to make it so people are not more likely to want to keep azerite gear they dont need because they can scrap for titan residuum vs giving it to a person who needs it? Such as the person who receives the piece getting TR when someone else equips it? I can see people not wanting to trade pieces to those who need the upgrade because hey I want the TR to buy a piece.

Some questions about BFA in general that are not just about the upcoming season change. Allied Races were announced as a BIG FEATURE of BFA, so can you tell us how many more are planned for BFA? The longer you wait to release a Allied Race the less the are able to be a part of BFA. People have to level (at least to get heritage armor) and gear (which is fairly easy but still a bit time consuming.) Can we please get an idea of how many and maybe which ones are to come. Were some planned that you have now decided against? San’layn seemed a bit likely but no word of them as an example. Vulpera as another… It just seems that as a big feature of BFA it should be happening a bit more then it has so far. Is there any plan to make leveling feel like you are getting stronger? No new powers /talents… instead powers getting taking away each expansion…

If you get say, a 1h but are using a higher level staff, it won’t let you trade because you don’t have a higher level 1h. The staff doesn’t count.

That’s how a GM explained it when I tried to ticket a trade.

Will drops from Darkshore rares go up to 355? (“Darkshore rewards will go up by 15 item levels”)

One RANDOM item per month. I did the 385 Darkshore quest on 4 toons and only ONE got an upgrade.

I am running it on two toons and each got literally the same piece this cycle that they got last time around.

There has been a large absence of Weapon chests for emisary awards on the Alliance side

Speaking as Horde, I personally have never seen a weapon chest as an emissary reward.

As pointed out on other social media, this is the kind of developer communication we need more of. If we got one of these every week, it would go a long way to mending the shaky perception of how developers think about players and WoW in general.

People like to play armchair dev and assume that if they could just make their favorite changes to the game, it would all be solved, and everything would be perfect. It’s hard to accurately judge ourselves, and for any of the commonly held beliefs about what would ‘fix’ the game, there are simple reasons why not.

Just communicating the why of some of these things gives players perspective.
“If I were in charge, I’d remove LFR.”
“If you remove LFR, then 70% of the playerbase will never even see the raid content at all, miss out on the story, and feel like the game dies after dungeons.”
Communication like this post helps players remember that it’s not all about their wishes, and the devs are not trying to ruin the game, they don’t ‘hate’ specific classes (honestly, that one is just absurd), and they care about the game as much as anyone else.

Please do more of this.

Thank. You for this explanation. I know we as players get vocal and upset at a lack of communication, so this was well warranted.

If I dkk a 10 this week, I get a 380 piece again is my understanding? Just looking for clarity.

So no reason to come back and play as the new season is not fixing any if the major issues.

This could have been the case as well. I think someone else tried to explain that to me yesterday and I didn’t get it (oops). I’m not sure, it was just random people I didn’t know in LFR… so I guess there could be a logical answer then. I thought I had read about people in guilds having the same type of issues, perhaps it’s been tweaked.

Maybe that’s working as intended too and won’t be changed.

I feel if it’s my loot I should be able to trade it to someone if they’re “eligible” though. Putting invisible stipulations on trading items to another person just seems odd.

Its annoying to be sure. I should be able to trade my loot to anyone i want.

@Watcher,

I give up on you’re clunky slot-machine game.

I give up on you as game director.

… and yes you can have my gold if you want it.

Why should you be able to trade BoP loot to whoever you want?

BEcause they replace a loot system that allowed loot to go where it was needed with a personal loot system that tends to screw people over. I am not saying there was no flaws in the master loot system, but you wouldn’t get someone getting a 1hand weapon who is using a staff, when someone else was in actual need of that weapon for upgrade. Now with personal loot even though your staff is as high or even higher you cant trade that 1hand weapon because you dont have a 1hand weapon that is that ilvl, so loot gets scrapped/de’d that someone in the raid needs because of the personal loot system. It is the biggest flaw in the personal loot system. Oh look I got a new piece of gear that warforged to 5 ilvls higher then what i have I cant trade it to you even though it would be a 30 ilvl upgrade for you and i wont use it because the stats are horrible and 5 ilvls is not worth going from best stats to worst stats. Even the wow I have somehow gotten lucky and got loot from each boss (very rare but have seen it happen, not for me but others) I want to spread the love but cant because ilvl upgrade whether it is 5 10 15+. Or how about trinkets and rings, these are pieces where sometimes even 30 ilvls lower can still be better, but the trinket is great for your guildmates spec/class, and just horrible for you. Cant trade it even though you don’t want it will not use it…There are many reasons to change personal loot to always be able to trade.
