There was a setting that would put the piano slightly out of tune… This would mimic the old church-house piano that never gets any maintenance.
Out of tune sounds right to many!

You can imitate an old honky tonk sound by placing small metal wedges between the piano strings. That’s what was done here, it is intentional. Tone generators let you add a ‘variance’ by less than a 1/4 tone to try and sound like an analogue instrument.
And the effect of the shims?
Puts it slightly out of tune.
That IS honky tonk.
