What would you play if all classes did comparable damage and healing and all the roles had an instant Que.
Historically I’ve always played a tank because I don’t like waiting around to ques or group invites, and healed in raids because its easy and a fast invite, but with delves and follower dungeons and other solo content in the next expansion I’ve considered going casual, paying for my ksm (in gold via tokens) and maybe any important AOTC that has an attached mount.
But it leaves me with the question of if I can play anything what would I actually play.
Hunter comes with a built in tank so it would be good for doing delves and world content, but I’ve always loved the visuals of arcane mage spells, but its hard to know exactly what is going to feel fun to play.
I wouldn’t play. I play this game because I enjoy holy trinity based MMORPGs. In order to do what your proposing it would fundamentally change the game. The games I’ve played that tried to do this, didn’t hold my interest at all. For me it felt like everything was overly homogenized and not having the trinity really broke down the social interdependency of groups. The dependency on others is what organically leads to developing social relationships with other players. Which fundamentally is something that makes MMOs fun, at least for me.
I didn’t propose anything. I just asked if you could play any spec and it did comparatively well to any other spec in its given role and you could play anything you wanted what would it be.
I never suggested getting rid of roles. The hypothetical situation is that a dps has the same Que times as a tank, not that it replaces one.
I took this to mean that every class did all these things - not that tanks were balanced only with tanks, healers only with healers, etc.
Thats two very different things. There’s a lot of posts on the forums lately that seem to support the idea of getting rid of roles and allowing each class to do all the roles and I assumed I guess incorrectly that was where you were going with it.
Otherwise if your not - what I play is not dictated by the balance of the game. I play the class I’m interested in at the time and the playstyle of that class heavily dictates what that ends up being.
Just in the impossible scenario that there is perfect class tuning and no wait times for any role class or spec to be able to play the game.
I’m 100% aware that this will never happen I was just curious what people though was fun or cool outside of factors that have been a big influence on how I chose classes over the years. Because how long it takes to get invited or being invited at all has been a big concern but if blizzard iterates on delves and makes them useful it could open up options to really play anything. Although tanks and bm hunter will still probably be the best option for delves as well.
DPS: Affliction Warlock. If they can ever fix it I’ll main it.
Tank: Prot Warrior or Brewmaster.
Healer: Disc Priest.
I like a lot of classes/specs but Affliction has been way too disappointing. It’s sad really. One of the most unique specs and Blizzard just can’t figure it out.
I would def feel more comfortable playing survival hunter. It’s one of my favorite specs but I really need to have a tank or healer because I do get frustrated with high queue times.
Though it’s not as bad as I sometimes imagine when I do play dps, it does feel weird to play a class/spec that someone won’t rez if you die. I like to feel necessary(even if it puts a bit more pressure to do well)
I play all classes already, regardless of how well or poorly I perform with them.
Although I sometimes pick a class that’s best able to accomplish a goal, I’m usually picking goals that are appropriate to what I feel I can accomplish with the class I’m playing at the moment.
( but I’m most playing solo, so within each class I’m already gravitating towards specs and builds that are a jack-of-all-trades )
Queue times play no role in which class I play, which is pretty much every class anyway. My main is a Paladin and I will ocassionally switch to tank or healer if there’s a long queue time, but with pure dps specs I always find plenty to do while waiting for the queue to pop.
I’d play whatever I find to be the most fun, and I have an affinity of sorts towards tanking in general.
That being said, I don’t do group content in WoW because I no longer find it fun.
I’ve heard Delves may present a solo option, but I was instantly disillusion when they start shoving the reward system in front of me instead of showcasing how they could be.
… and even getting past that, my interest has not been piqued by what they are. Word of stuff being “seasonal” was also an instant turn-off.
Anyhow, I’ll do what I find fun. Even if that means NOT doing stuff I don’t enjoy.
I pretty much ignore all of those aspects: queue time, performance, etc.
Do I leverage them if I have it? Yes. When I was leveling my Warrior/Druid/DK through XP Buffed Timewalking instances (all, what, five of them at the time?), did I queue as Tank? Hecka-ya I did.
But that’s not why I pick the classes to play. But I’m not going to leave money on the table.
If people aren’t picking me for something because of my class, I don’t know it because nobody tells me.
Back in the day, in early Wrath, I did roll the DK to be a tank in order to get groups. But that need vanished with LFD. Nowadays, I find being a tank a liability trying to get into a raid group.
