Willing to put money on the LoL MMO community being better than WoW’s.
I’ve said this before and I will say it again: I don’t hold my breath for a WoW killer, but Riot has the talent, the rich backstory, the marketing funding and the development experience to make a good competitor to FFXIV and WoW.
Secondly, they don’t even need to be that successful to get Blizz’s attention. It is a well known fact that they constantly try to push competitors out of the sand box by timing releases, whereas their competitors just don’t care.
legends of runeterra already killed hearthstone, here’s hoping for one more.
i don’t think riot is a good company but the bar is on the ground for being better than blizzard in any way so.
Yeah, the thing with the LoL MMO is that they’ve got just about everything in place that you’d need to launch a record-shattering MMORPG. Like, strong “lead up to WoW’s original launch” vibes.
They have an abundance of time, money, and a pre-existing fanbase that’s both huge and insanely devoted, AND they have something earlier MMO’s didn’t have: a bunch of devs who already have a ton of experience making MMORPGs, with some of them being veterans of a time when WoW’s gameplay and class balance was generally viewed much, much more positively. It’s all there!
And while I love FFXIV and believe that it is (at the moment) superior to WoW in many ways, I do think the heavy focus on story, the slower gameplay, and the overall aesthetic will likely keep it from ever reaching WoW’s insane heights, although that doesn’t necessarily mean it will never surpass WoW in its current state - I’m sure the two are sitting at a roughly equal (but maybe leaning towards FFXIV) number of subscribers right now.
If the LoL MMO is good and manages to get even 1/3rd of the people who play League to subscribe, it’s gonna have a launch the likes of which we haven’t seen in awhile.
Honestly with the launch of a LoL MMO, I feel it would do either one of two things to the MMO genre as a whole:
Either bring back rich RPGs and possibly other MMO contenders as the genre gets boosted to new heights
OR
Absolutely wreck any minor company that isn’t well-established from attempting, thus marking the final age of telling healers to adjust that - once WoW, FFXIV, and LoLMMO die, that’s it. We move on to the next big adventure… like VRMMO.
(I can dream)
I mentioned in Shirt’s PVP thread or somewhere about PVP in WoW but I specifically remember when League came out, it siphoned away a lot of the competitive PVPers from my server including several gladiator title holders from my guild because it immediately gave them what they wanted. PVP but without a level or gear grind and ladders that where competitive and not having their classes constantly nerfed and tweaked.
So it wouldn’t be surprising to me if LoL’s MMO does that again but this time it pulls away PVErs.
I wouldn’t be surprised if XIV surpassed WoW’s current state.
The LoL mmo is years out and nothing else on the horizon looks very much like a big game changer.
What about Star Citizen?
pfffff hahahahahahaha
(Edit: My condolences to the backers)
There would be something darkly funny about the LoL MMO becoming WoW 2 in the sense that it gobbles up anything that’s even vaguely MMORPG-esque, leaving itself as effectively the sole em em oh are pee gee on the market
Maybe time really is a flat circle
I’d love a WoW 2.0 with better graphics and player housing. PvE gameplay (and only the gameplay) in WoW is still a good game, but that’s all it has now.
Edit: by WoW 2.0… I mean a similar game by another company. Not an actual WoW 2.0.
blizzard releases wow 2 but it’s just retail wow only all the zones have been flipped horizontally and non-resto shamans are no longer playable
35 dollars to unlock resto Shamans.
The funniest part about the move was that we were discussing about the differences in the communities, and the mods just went and proved our point.
That’s really really funny. FFXIV players, in my personal experience, are extremely more patient and considerate. I remember when I was leveling my Warrior and pretty new to FF tanking and everyone was kind, considerate, and let me pull at my own pace. They didn’t even make a big deal when I obviously messed up and pulled too many.
I feel really really bad for new players trying tanking in WoW.
What do you mean you don’t have full heirloom set, 49 max level alts, five million gold to your name, and a 2200 RBG rating?
Uninstall, trash.
Or something, idk, I play games with nice people.
a website that lists player numbers says ffxiv has a few hundred thousand up over wow rn
idk how reliable that website is, but its food for thought i guess
I don’t really put alot of stock in those sites, but I also would not be surprised if that was true.
Silvermoon be updated. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
careful, the way blizzard has been “updating” capital cities lately seems to consist of turning them into slightly higher def smoking craters
Blizzard updates BC capitals by getting the Exodar up and running and then immediately crashing it full speed into Silvermoon.
