What were they doing?

Do we have an idea of what the Army of the Light was doing or where they were based before the battle for Silvermoon?

I’m almost certainly overthinking things, but I was re-watching the Midnight cinematic and something kinda jumped out at me. If we’re supposed to believe that Xal’atath wants the Sunwell, then we can imagine that seeing a bunch of paladins role up would illicit something like annoyance, right? Even if she doesn’t think they’ll be a real threat, she would still be like “ugh, these insects merely delay the inevitable” but with her face, ya know?

Instead, she smiles and then vanishes. Now this is definitely just a “cool shot” kind of situation, but I do find it interesting especially given her history. She has several times used distraction as a means to get something; using the Kaheti attack on Dalaran to absorb the arcane energy, using them again in Hallowfall to syphon from Beledar, and even as far back as the time of the Black Empire, C’thun mentions that she had tried to distract the other Old Gods in order to attack N’zoth.

So what if Silvermoon is another distraction? What is she actually after? And is it something the Army of the Light was guarding

The Army of the Light wasn’t all together. The Sunwell plucked people from all over, though it clearly favored light-oriented folks.

The army of the light are just random paladins and heroes who were summoned by the well. the light obviously favoured light users, so it summoned a lot of alliance folk.

I’m talking specifically about the Army of the Light faction that formed to fight the Burning Legion way back in the day. The group that was on Argus and followed the Prime Naaru, Xe’ra.

Oh them, thats just the lightforged draenei.

After Legion, Xe’ra was dead and her corpse was used as a battery, Lothraxion left apparently to fight remnants of the Burning Legion and Fareeya wasn’t given enough backstory or attention by the writers. This left Turalyon in charge, and between that and the Lightforged Dranei wanting to reconnect with their kin, they joined the Alliance.

They played a bit of a role in BfA then the writers either left the company or forgot about them until now.
