Way too long, Incursions jacked the economy up and also discouraged open world leveling, gear itemization over P2 was crap, +1 stat increase on gear?
SOD def bounced back in recent phases though. Its unfortunate they just dont have enough people dedicated to it developing new content. Hec, they could of just re-did Kara and released it and people would of ate it up.
Still playing Phase 6 though as the game is still fun for alot of us.
I liked how the rune system made a lot of the underdeveloped classes from vanilla more interesting. But really it went too far. Warriors and rogues are imo pretty good rotation in vanilla already.
Also none of the underdeveloped zones were fleshed out. Would rather seen that than incursions tbh.
Liked that shamans and locks could be legit tanks but the rest were not needed.
The main attraction for me was getting to see the game at different max levels. I really liked level 25 phase 1, questing and some dungeoning was a very different and cool vibe compared to era. Phases two and three were okay, with the main problem of phase 3 being that it was way too long.
Phase four and beyond it kind of just feels like wow classic again, just with some different abilities and mechanics. Iâm still playing it, but I wonât be surprised if I start losing interest soon.
I donât think SOD was a failure at all. It was for people that wanted to play classic again but with better classes and other new content. I mean if youâre DPSing in OG Classic as anything other than a Warrior, Rogue, or Mage youâre basically griefing. And Rogues, Mages, and Warlocks are much better than everyone else in PvP so its not like OG classic is this super balanced game like the classic purists often pretend it is whenever they complain about SOD.
Outside of Boomkins which are still obscenely strong and mages being pathetically weak, PvP balance now finally feels relatively balanced in SOD imo. You just have to have R13 gear + flask of the titans up. Blood Moon is poppin off right now while people wait for AQ. Its more fun than its ever been at level 60.
PvP community thinking they are way bigger than they are ⌠funny. Usually the same people on Classic Era saying, âSoD is dead!â while sitting in the town all day arguing on forum because they canât get enough people together to do a BG.
Imo the PvPers couldnât leave soon enough. Very vocal minority that couldnât cope with the game not being balanced around them and probably the reason the devs will never interact with us again.
Tbh as someone who only played phase 1 and never came back ene though i kept an eye on it. The seasonal theme is whatnput me off if the added all the up to 60 content right off the bat then imo it would have been better. Part of why some people donât playnretail is specifically because of the specific Rollercoaster. There are a lot of reasons it has not retained players. Mainly imo people where expecting a classic plus experience and it went to close to what people donât like about retail vs adding qol and additiond with retaining the classic feel.
Biggest thing is the slow pace they held content back. Felt like SOD was an after thought to the devs. Phase 3 lasted far far FAR too long. And leveling up alts now and getting them raiding is just such a chore. If they had proper ways for alts to catch up itâd be great but thereâs not much reason to level alts and just be behind for so long.
Refusal to accept the reality that many if not most people actually care about PvP balance. Also SoD dev team refusal buff egregiously OP runes and classes. Games done
I dont think SOD went wrong. My guild and i still log in frequently to play together. I think general frustration is around the blue posts and the bait and switches being performed. Blue posters need to ask themself âwhy am i posting thisâ and âdoes this achieve that goal.â Jesus, look at all the drama surrounding brood rep farming.
It definitely feels like they straight up abandoned the PvP community from Phase 3 on. I know weâre the minority, I know PvP is just a mini game in Classic, but it still feels bad.
In vanilla, the game was overall way more balanced. In PVP, dungeons, battlegrounds, etc, and even to a degree raid. The main outlier in raid was rogue, and warrior due to world buffs not being considered and heroic strike mechanic. HS causes you to ignore the -19% hit penalty and glancing blows in a game based on mostly auto attacks. Having all the end game gear + world buffs which is worth far more than a tierâs worth of gear meant you could easily get to the breakpoint of heroic strike spam and get a big dps boost. The dps scaling falls off pretty hard once you reach it, but prior to reaching it there is a lot of scaling.
This outlier of fury also did terrible damage outside of raid and in pvp so it was literally just one outlier in raid, whereas the rest of the game was far more balanced.
SoD by contrast tries to balance around world buffed raids with a bunch of new spells and now everything from raiding without world buffs to non-raid content is 100x worse than vanilla.
lol No it was not. Theres a reason they stack specific classes in raids and bgs. e.g., a proper wsg premade is like 6 geared arms wars, 3 healers and a feral druid. If you were a premade made up of a mix of different classes, youâd get smashed.
Raids had a similar thing going on, stacking fury warriors. If you were enhance or ret, you would invest in nightfall (weapon), and then BEG, hoping someone would pity/like you enough to let you come along.
