What was your most heated gaming debate?

Sadly yeah. I would probably best move to another game at this point, one younger or more niche that hasn’t crusted over so badly, but there’s not really an awful lot of options in this playstyle. WoW, FFXIV, SWTOR, and LOTRO are about all that survives, LOTRO never adopted a catch-up approach to expansion packs at all AFAIK so that’s well over $100 in old xpacs just to get back into the game so that is out. SWTOR is … alright, but always felt like “come for the story and then go back on a break” to me. FFXIV has been largely developing the same cultural issues as WoW, just masked to a degree because Square Enix are much more aggressive about actioning reports and it’s much harder to get rid of an account mark (it’s a similar Penalty Volcano to Blizzard’s except it practically never lets you descend … lol).

Newer MMOs have mainly gone to an almost entirely action based system with an “everyone’s DPS” approach and usually an even more extreme focus on gear grind combined with extensive pay to win and tactics that usually make even Vanilla look complicated.

Most other multiplayer video games are exclusively PvP based, so maybe the problem is indeed that the sustainability of team PvE is itself questionable? Even back in DOOM, the co-op mode was largely niche at most, despite the efforts of some more prominent level creators to include features for or even design some maps specifically for it … The depressing conclusion seems to be the one I came to some time ago: for chill players the long term future appears to be either individual-contest PvP (including traditional card and board as well as video games), tabletop-style RPGs, or playing games individually while talking in voice chat about them. That traditional team PvE has almost run its course, outside of the top tier esports-style folks that can push the limits of possibility, the Ninja Warriors of this virtual world …

Yet, I still somehow hoped that I could push for otherwise, and ruffled countless feathers in the process.

It was more a good than bad run overall, and it was too painful to accept the idea that what looked like the end of the road might, in fact, actually be the end of the road.

Heals don’t crit

I’ve had a couple arguments over Survival Hunter (ranged v.s. melee) that went for over a month.

We’re talking over 60 character-capped reddit posts (about 2 a day because they took so long to write). Extremely heated the entire time, too.

Sorry, I guess it could look like a paw. Since I replied to you I assumed it would have automatically set it to a bell for you. Happy you found it though!

Canonizing destroy but soft-Retcon the destruction of the Geth would be ideal.

Bro…. Mass Effect is like my personal saddest gaming franchise that has fallen. I’m on like giga giga copium that it will make the comeback it deserves.

I’ve played through ME2 roughly 25 times I just love the original trilogy. Even ME3 now that the wounds have healed I can live with somewhat.

Side-note: please return to the older class system. I love the six classes rather than Skyrim Omni-class approach to Andromeda.

Had several intense debates regarding the Kyrian/Forsworn. My ideas weren’t popular.

  • The Forsworn were not motivated by altruism, only power.
  • Uther is a murderer of innocents, and belongs in the Maw holding Sylvanas’s purse.
  • Forsworn stewards are corrupted and irredeemable.
  • The only hint of actual slavery in Bastion, is the Forsworn holding hostages in chains.
  • The after school special conclusion to Bastion’s story was awful.

What in the bloody hell does that have to do with what I said? Oh right, you think History = Theology.

Kids today man.

God, I started really pushing for Darkfallen - San’layn - as allies to Void Elves, and it made me lose faith in humanity.
And whoops, we got that one too.

Still loving the Alliance “High Elf” is a bunch of goths though. Good spin on the whole thing. Probably should have just launched with the High Elf options out the gate to have saved that whole year of headache.

The Bible isn’t history.

an arguement with a buddy about pokemon sword and shield, and how i thought (and still think) it’s a dumb game because the developers lied to the playerbase about limiting the amount of pokemon in the games, even though all of them are graphically future-proofed and there is no reason they can’t all be in there.

…and yes, i know there’s hardware limitations with the switch, but it’s still stupid that they can’t just admit that it can’t handle that many textures/models…
heck, i’m 90% certain that’s why they swapped to spirits/jpegs in smash bros ultimate, rather than do trophies… even though they’ve been a big part of the series since melee and even have headlining story-mode lore importance.

other than that, i’ve argued about blood-elves and void elves being different (similar, but different), i’ve argued about adding more druids (i want dwarf and pandaren druids dangit!) , player housing, the idea of both factions getting vulpera, and so much more.

As a former Magic: The Gathering player I was one of the few who was totally on the wrong side of history regarding the reserved list. I swore they’d break it so the expensive stuff wasn’t worth holding onto. It would come back. It really didn’t though and only got 100 times more expensive. Then they released a quasi-reprint set but priced it at 250 bucks per pack, a real sheiss show.

I ultimately got exactly what I wanted by having a hong kong printer print me literally every card I remotely cared about (looking nicer than the real things btw) and once I was finished doing that, I totally quit due to chronic lack of other players in my area. All that stuff sits in boxes and I haven’t look at it in many a month.

I wish I had all those hours, days, months, heck YEARS, spent on something more productive. Trying to get magic back to first principals, which it will literally never ever do now, was truly my white whale.

Arguing with Ragnaros about who burnt the marshmallows…

That Bethesda couldn’t write an actual Fallout game to save their lives.

They may own the license, but have no idea what made them great.

Debate? Here? I thought it was mud wrestling

Me and my brother a few years ago over the Imperials and Stormcloaks in Skyrim and what to pick and why, till we both just realised both suck and would mod for a neutral path. IMO Stormcloak are better by only a hair, if they combine with the rogue Hammerfell they could make a decent 3rd nation. Alot of corruption and ineptitude on both sides.

No lies detected here.

some people claimed Wrath was a good expansion. I had to correct them.

Deathbattle settled that debate. Nothing comes close to the rage that is Goku vs Superman though.

I thought Fallout 3 was decent, but Obsidian Entertainment pretty much floored them with Fallout New Vegas. I’m following that studio closely, and I’m looking forward to what they do with Avowed.

I’ll argue about whatever as long as it’s in good fun.

Do you even need to mod for that, I’m pretty sure that the one time I did the full plot I just ended up skipping the war thing because it wasn’t really interesting to me.

It’s one of those, it’s a decent enough PA rpg. But they just seem incapable of grasping the actual feel of the world. They have concentrated on parts of the aesthetic without grasping it entirely (it’s what the 50s thought the future would look like, not the 50s with future tech for one example)

but it was the stuff like Todd Howard’s explanation of the FO style dark humor was something like shooting an old lady with a weapon that pins her head to the wall and a little cartoon guy gives you a thumbs up kinda show the problem.

There’s just not the same level of playstyles and choices for things, or the same thought into dialogue. I’ll admit the FO3 is one of the games that really made me hate (at least in certain situations) the whole environmental storytelling, well, at least when there’s more of that than actual storytelling in a more straight RPG (stuff like Dark Souls were the game is about the combat and the environmental stuff is a bonus is fine)

And I could keep going on. It’s just one of those things were what might be a decent game gets messed up by being shoved into a series where it doesn’t feel like it fits in properly.
