What was your favorite itirration of shadow priest?

Clearly you all hate it lol but I for one love it now and the old god feel with tentacles and floating it just feels amazing to me

Maybe because it’s been here for as long as it has and there are still people that say they like it… The last time I genuinely played and enjoyed my priest was before legion… that’s why. It’s still here.

Or you just can’t let people have a different opinion than you lol

I loved it. In legion at least. In fact, I’d go as far as saying Legion was my favorite xpac because of how much I loved it. I quit a few weeks into BfA because of how empty it felt compared to the Legion version.

I played shadow once and only once, for the Mage Tower in Legion. It was awful. I got it done and never again. DPSing green bars to full is so much better.

I mained a priest in WotLK from Ulduar through Cata being released. Played shadow / holy, and really, really enjoyed shadow. The rotation was simple compared to today, but coming from Vanilla and then BC, it was a nice improvement and rewarding. In particular, I liked how I felt like a hybrid, providing mana and heals for my group, while still being able to provide competitive DPS.

My second favorite time to play shadow, and probably my absolute favorite, was WoD. The shadow orb > devouring plague mechanic felt so freaking good, especially since the damage was so high and it healed you. It seems Blizzard has tried to capture this same gameplay with affliction locks soul shards feeding unstable affliction, but it doesn’t feel half as good. I also really enjoyed the Clarity of Power playstyle in Highmaul with dot-weaving.

Legion came out, voidform was introduced, and shadow has sucked ever since, for me. Then in BfA, shadow has felt like a strict downgrade from Legion, so it’s not even playable for me anymore.

I just miss the feeling of evolution and empowerment through expansions. BC was an upgrade from Vanilla. WotLK was an upgrade from BC. This trend carried through until WoD prepatch when the first pruning happened. Although, WoD rotations were surprisingly very fun. Under the guise of “class identity”, Legion changed a ton of classes, and overall made them less fun. The expansion’s saving grace was M+ being new and the dungeons being super fun, artifacts + legendaries making gearing explosive, and the very good outdoor content. BfA is just such a strict downgrade from WoW past…it’s so sad.

BC was the time I felt the most love for the spec. I know a lot of people enjoy the concept of a dps being a dps, but I rather liked the idea of being a mana battery. I rather like the concept of supportive dps also the vampiric tones.

Plus I loved that feeling of slowly melting someone down and draining their life force ending with a ‘shhhhh’ and a ‘FWOOOSH’. No other time in the game felt quite as good.

A little history lesson on Legion Shadow.

OP in the first raid tier in Raids, trash in dungeons

Trash in raids and dungeons for the rest of Legion.

BFA

Trash in first Tier in both raids and dungeons

Rest of BFA up to now

Good in dungeons OP in raids.

There has never been a point where there has been a middle ground with Void Form Design and they have had 3 years to work on it. Anyone who has invested at least a little bit of time in Shadow would know this.

As far as fun factor goes i will agree with you that Legion Shadow was more fun and had more Skill expression, the problem was, unbalance-able, felt like it was made for a different game.

BFA shadow: still unbalance-able but at not a high of a lvl.

I think that’s selling the spec kinda short, at least for raids. ToS was fine, saw play at all levels of raiding and had a few fights it shone. Antorus was ok, but heavily gated behind rotational haste requirements. Dungeons though yeah it wasn’t good.

I just can’t sit and say with a straight face that shadow was trash for raiding after EN…

Ill retract the statement on raids for anything other than Nighthold where they were pretty bad.

Shadow was one of THE progress classes for early NH, but it was quickly outscaled and a lot worse later on in the tier, so I’d say it’s 50/50.

If you say so, that wasn’t my experience though.

Cata spriest played so smoothly. Was one of the few times I felt I could beat any class of equal skill/gear in the world. Bring back devouring plague please…

My personal favorite was MoP. Largely due to the snapshot mechanic. I think the playstyle was similar in WoD at least in the Foundry raid and it wasn’t nearly as fun without snapshotting.

Actually, I did main shadow since vanilla, all the way up to Legion where I had to set her aside, so yeah, I did main shadow, and there are many others that do as well, you’re just not looking. I did LFR and I raided, and I’m still hoping VF will be removed or turned into a talent. Just recently opened my account back up to continue leveling mine the rest of the way out in hopes for changes in Shadowlands, but I am not holding my breath. Even just making it tolerable would be fine imo

WoD was peak, without a doubt. I was ready to play that spec forever.

And then voidform happened, and it became the least fun spec in the game.
