I get the sense that it’s not necessarily dropped, but rather they’ve just narrowed the scope again. At least for now. At least I hope. Because frankly it was just too big of a jump in one go. Adding multiple new layers of creation and creators, that sounded entirely too similar to the ones we were still not done with on our own world. Not to mention the messy implications of a multiversal mortal plane that all led into the same plane of death.
We all just pretend Shadowlands never happened and everything in it was just our characters hallucinating.
ZM kind of opened that can of worms.
If anything, it just left more questions about The First Ones.
But that turned into a “what sword?” situation.
I assumed that this was a meta reference to the Devs, tbh.
I remember everyone laughing because the story was so bad.
The pre-raid questline in Zereth Mortis has you following Pelagos and Kleia around while you build a new Arbiter robot.
And none of the NPC’s even bat an eye.
oh.
I did that AFTER I did the raid.
oops.
I had a feeling when I got to the Jailer in the solo raid that I had missed something.
We may never know lol.
Just like what happened with Sire Denathrius being carried off into the sunset.
Or saurfang, or varian, or tirion, or nathanos… etc
From what I remember, the only thing that seemed to garner any excitement in Zereth Mortis was when people were waiting with bated breath to see if a world first raider would pass out live on stream.
Maybe more people should have played the game instead of watching other people play it for them.
But when I play I have to put up with my bad gameplay.
And that makes me uncomfortable.
But then you wouldn’t get to watch someone possibly faint and fall out of their chair.
You know I think it’s a real shame they fumbled the ball like they did. I went back to ZM a couple months ago in order to then go and solo the sepulcher. While I did play shadowlands, I do not raid. So I’d never actually been in the raid before. And honestly, outside of the flaccid grip of dissatisfaction that is shadowlands lore, I actually really love the place. It’s some wild, high concept fantasy stuff. With some really trippy and out there designs for enemies and environments.
Acting like SL lore was trash when you got WoD and it’s alternate universe AND time travel which was largely disdained by people, Legion and the whole “you ALL are big bosses and hold the totes unique awesome weapons of lore”, and BfA and the whole “we’re totes at war…WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR…except psych it’s really old gods” tripe
And then the KING of garbage lore in DF. Oh yes I’ve slapped down literal deities well over a decade ago but sure…a cranky proto dragon who somehow survived trapped in a cell for 5 digits worth of years at least whose powers were to make it rain really hard is totes a credible threat worthy of my god slaying status to come deal with so we can help glorified planetary babysitters get their powers back…entities who aren’t even on PLANET power levels let alone cosmic or even multi universal.
But sure, SL is the problem in all this…and I won’t even go into how the majority of you (and especially players ingame) even pay effing attention to quest text anyway.
My favorite partt of the Legion story is when Illidan killed a Prime Naaru and all the army of the light was just like.
ok. whatevs
to be fair, if we stay at this level of power scaling at all times, there is no game.
Much of the above sentiment and ennui was the case… but one other thing that I don’t think has been mentioned was a disappointment in many of our circles (even lore circles who disagree with one another) at how this bad writing doesn’t just stay contained to itself… namely; because them showing the eternal ones as mere robots also entangled the character of Elune as probably needing to be called a robot if you want consistency. And that just cheapens and eradicates the joy that many people have in contemplating the magical character of Elune that has been with us through so many of the single player games as well as every single expansion of WoW.
Many of us just have to sigh and cross all our fingers and hope that we can ignore all of that and not have Elune ruined by the bad writers who were poor replacements for the ‘real’ writers who crafted Elune to be part of our story in the first place.
I don’t think anyone cared… robot hell was such a bad story arch I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if its entirely retoned.
My initial reaction was basically like “Everything is robots? So creative!” with a heavy dose of sarcasm.
