Reforging was kind of interesting because it added a mini-puzzle to optimizing your gear (addons eventually automated it which kind of dampened the fun imo), but I really don’t think it would work in today’s environment. There are so few secondary stats that there’s nothing to really solve.
For a majority of characters, the priority list would be, like, 3 steps at most:
Is the item missing Haste? If so, reforge the highest secondary (that isn’t Crit) to Haste
Does the item have Haste but not Crit? If so, reforge whatever isn’t Haste to Crit
Does the item already have both Haste and Crit? If so, do nothing.
For specs that rely on Mastery or Vers, it’d be the same process with a few words swapped.
You’re thinking way too much of a min/max/bis scenario rather than giving players the choice. You can have a lot of fun with a system like reforging without having the meta set up. Not everyone is a meta monkey.
idk this system but it seems like youre able to play around w/ u gear if u wanted so it kinda sounds cool if u arent extreme minmaxin. sounds stressful to try to rng good stats after a bit
i enjoy haste.
i have items where i must wear that do not have haste but a large upgrade to strength.
reforging would take those items. turn have of a stat into haste. pretty neato.
Reforging let you go to an NPC and convert a chunk of a secondary stat on your gear into another stat of your choice. Turning Mastery into Crit, for example.
The way it would work today, for example, is, instead of carrying around like, 8 rings for ilvl waiting for the one without Mastery on it, I could just reforge the one with a socket and on Hero track but with like a 30/70 split favoring mastery to something more useful and not have to pray to RNGesus for a better ring.
It was enough that it mattered. And if you did it to your entire set, I can promise it was more than 3%.
It would be like not enchanting or gemming any piece of gear.
The argument was whether it was forced or not and the customization of it.
So using the argument of min/maxing doesn’t apply. It’s like saying you have to dungeon spam to level because it’s the most time efficient means to level.
I do agree it isn’t really needed today, especially how stat weights and such work now. I do miss having the extra ability to min/max however.
I dont know how much reforging is needed nowadays, they did a decent job on making it so higher ilv=upgrade, besides rings/necks and is not like players need a power boost, the upgrade system takes care of that.
Uh, crafting? Being able to make a neck and two rings is already like what, 600 or 700 of two different secondaries of your choice per item, before the gems and enchants.
16 slots of Crafted Gear on me… We’re doing this for the memes, baby! Since Blizzard doesn’t care about limiting the amount of Crafted Gear you can wear…
