What type of player would you consider a tourist?

I agree that it’ll take far longer. But for me the critical aspect of tourism is the burning desire to experience things… Followed by an equally intense boredom at things already experienced. The combination is rather common, apparently.

Lol. And yet people are still playing BFA even though its a carbon copy of legion with a tad bit of a change here and there…

You underestimate Classic fans
If people are still playing retail so avidly… Classic wont have a problem.

For me its someone who comes and plays checks it out just to see what it is about then leaves for weeks at a time and just occasionally checks in to see whats going on get a level or 2 and leaves etc

Ooh, personal questions. This time round i consider myself a tourist.

1, 2, & 3 - playtime will be squeezed between my primary games if mood strikes. Max 10% of my Vanilla playtime (few thousand hrs).

4 - progressing happens incidentally; occasionally providing mild amusement, occasionally mild inconvenience. Primary entertainment comes from gameplay (combat and farming).

5 - I’m now of the mind that end game pve is the only part NOT worth playing. Don’t pvp.

6 - ive always despised homework. No intention of starting now. The POINT of an MMO is to collaborate, preferably sometimes about the game. Best memories were in Kara with friends coordinating and explaining fights.

It certainly will have its loyal adherents. But we loyal long haulers are a distinct minority. The term “content locust” is apt.

Well.

We’ll see… I believe you’re just being pessimistic as hell.

From the way you word your belief of this situation I wouldnt be surprised if you’re one of the “plays fast and then burns out” types of people…

I’m definitely not. Very slow burn type; many would consider me masochistic for how slow i like it.

I believe I’ve been ambiguous again. Not uncommon.

I meant to define a subset of raiders who behave as I described, not to imply that all such do. There are plenty of raiders who are also loyal long haulers.

First thing: There are many types of “tourists” out there, in reality itself, and again when it comes to games. There are the ones who go to exotic locales and utterly trash them, and then there are the ones who respect where they’re traveling, often to wildly varying degrees even if they all stop short of leaving detritus everywhere.

For me, “the tourists” of prime concern are pretty much the embodiment of “you think you do, but you don’t.” They’re going to be the ones who start playing only to realize that it isn’t what they thought/remembered it to be, and quit before hitting level 20. (And I expect there to be a LOT of these, and a number of them don’t think they’re tourists right now, rose colored glasses are awesome that way. If they make it past 20, they may still be a “toxic tourist” variant, but they’re likely to stick around for a while)

But Tourists are also the people who have a (short) “bucket list” of things they want to do before “their trip” is complete, so somebody who wants to raid Naxx 40 CAN be a tourist. The difference is that Tourist leaves the moment they beat KT, loot not required.

A Collector will stick around until they get their wish-list piece of loot, then they’re gone, just like the Tourist.

Of course, you also have the “I did it first” types as well, who pretty much fall into the bucket list camp of tourists. This includes the ultra-hardcore guys who are going to be pushing to be first to 60, first to kill Ragnaros, First to Kill Ony, and so on. Once they’ve established their status as “Server first” or that they weren’t, they’ll be moving on to the next new server to open up after that so they can do it again. In some respects, I think they almost qualify for the “locust” title somebody else brought up. Except they shouldn’t be THAT disruptive all things considered.

But the thousands of players I expect to login only to never make level 20? They’re going to be a problem for the first few weeks.

Only playing 1 time and quitting for good.
Playing the game only when on vacation.
Playing only when bfa content drought crops up.

Everyone is way over complicating this term. Tourist is simply a player who has little or no intention of playing classic permanently and is just “checking it out”.

It really is that simple.

For Classic, I feel that everyone of us are “tourists”.
We are all heading out on an adventure, we just differ some in what sort of “vacation” we will be having and when we need to " go home".
It will be glorious and I truly hope everyone will have a wonderful time building new memories.

How much time do you hope to have per play session?
i have tons of free time
How many play sessions per week or month do you hope to have?
ill most likely play daily
Will WOW: Classic be something you do only if there’s nothing else, or a priority?
it will be my main hobby, I also play Civ6
How seriously do you take progressing your character?
I’m a dungeon and BG fan, maybe try raiding this time
Do you believe end game PvE or PvP is the only part worth playing?
No, the journey is quite fun, I’m hoping for RPPVP, RP servers to be available
Do you remember, or plan to read up on, the dungeon boss fights and raid boss fights? What about the trash?
will cross that bridge when I get to it =)

None of them.

I’m gonna make classic wow my number 1 game! Plan on playing 4-5 hours during work days and 5+ on weekends if I’m free ever. But who knows where I’ll be in life when summer rolls around :man_shrugging::man_shrugging::man_shrugging: Gonna choose classic over retail for sure tho! Gonna try not to learn to many tips and tricks just find my own way and suck!! Then git Gud or get got:)

I want to do PVE primarily and take a peek at pvp, but from what I know theirs no reason to casually pvp unless your gonna hardcore pvp.

I hope to make good memories and friends along the way! I already made 1 from the classic demo:) I’m really excited honestly for this journey to begin! It’ll have its ups and downs, fair share of boredom tears, but it’ll be a glorious road:)

a tourist is someone who doesn’t plan to play after getting past level 59
but if they do play for more than a month after hitting level 60, then they stop being a tourist; this is the most borderline-correct(that is, almost wrong) definition of a tourist that I’m willing to think up

also, there is a difference between a tourist and an explorer

Here are my simple definitions:

A tourist is someone who will only play classic when no other games are good enough (ex: content drought in retail)

A casual is someone who schedules their game time around their real life (ex: only raids on weekends because of family obligations)

A hardcore player is someone who schedules their real life around their game time (ex: only signing up for college classes that don’t conflict with raid time).

Notice how there are no time plated metrics in my definitions. They are simple and flexible.
