What takes so long?

I write software to automate SAP. It’s a beast.

Best answer yet. I was wondering if anyone had ideas. You’re right, turns out this is a poor place to get answers to any questions.

They probably determined they didn’t have enough traffic on the forum so they delayed cause they knew someone would start complaining.

Who sits at the edge of their seat all day for a prepatch anymore. Go for a walk or something. You’ll have a month to look at talents and a ui or kill random elemental spawns

no, you dont, or you’d know how laughable your initial inquiry is.

dont make me get the spray bottle…

Bug fixes. The time isn’t in the deployment, its in making sure everything works after. So, they are squashing bugs as we speak.

Ooh, thank you!

Right, as an example of how it’s possible. Which better frames my question: why does it take Blizzard so long?

It’s your approach bro. You may have asked an honest question but you also left a bunch of little negative trinkets laying around.

Even with automation because there’s a lot of ABAP software and improvements that helps with all the master data load…etc, a new deployment usually takes a lot of time, also due to smoke testing, scheduling jobs…etc

I’ll have to assume that its similar for WoW code.

Why do you think anyone here knows?

They have a control panel with 3 buttons on it.

  • Upload changes
  • Test
  • Go live

When they push the Test button, if there are no red flags, they push the Go live button.

What happened is they hit the Test button and red flags popped up everywhere.

I’ll accept that as positive feedback, thank you.

Feeling the burn yet my friend? Does it hurt?

Well, ya see… Blizzard was trying to be “innovative”, and make their legendary new expansion release updates, and instead of just appeasing the hard working server hamsters, they did this:

Now, we have the server hamsters angry and in a tailspin revolt:

The campus cats are plotting to take over

And the remote working raccoons just want to watch it all burn

Overwatch 2 launched their new Halloween event today.

Good way to burn some time while waiting!

I’m guessing first they wipe the entire server cluster clean. Then they rebuild the database and check for bugs and stuff and repair as needed. Then they deploy the world server and check for issues and if all is well across all servers they launch.

And this happens at multiple data sites and they don’t take them up until all are good.
