I linked this in the other music thread, and then saw a video about how it’s actually taken from the Rolling Stones, who actually took it from someone else.
Either way, The Verve had permission to use the sample loop, however similarities were thought to exist with the vocals too if you slowed the new version down or some such nonsense, and it was then ruled despite being allowed to use the 5 note sample, they had to hand over 100% of the royalties to Jagger and Richards.
They weren’t even the ones pushing this, it was their manager.
What a bunch of baloney.
