I’m not trying to throw shade or hate, I’m just genuinely curious was lures you to play WW over Rogue or DH?
DH seems to have stolen the most mobile roll. Rogue seems to do more sustain/burst and have stealth.
Monk is really thematically pleasing, but I’m having trouble justifying it as a main going into SL.

For me it’s because they’re connected to BrM and MW. I like variety in my class, that’s most of the reason why I play a Monk. I enjoy healing and tanking keys/raids and enjoy WW in PvP. They also have pretty good mobility which I can’t live without.
If I had to stick with only DPSing, then I’d honestly probably play a Rogue or DH.

I chose monk over rogue and demon hunter because the cooldowns seem more versatile. ring of peace can be a defensive knockback for yourself or healers, or an extra interrupt on healers/casters. teleport can be a strait up get out of jail free card in some cases. tiger’s lust takes care of root+beam, it can counter pressure from melee cleave teams. leg sweep is good offensively and defensively. incap is a nice ranged incap, to secure a cyclone, poly, hex, hoj. spamming vivify on a target you just ring of peaced, can bait interrupts, i mean the list goes on and on. it may look weaker in terms of strait comparison of cooldowns, and survivability but in many cases, a monk with good battle awareness can change the tides. plus its really fun to leg sweep+fists of fury lol but that was my mentality, and i’m glad i went monk.

I see what you’re saying. So it’s a lot more versatile and able to adapt in situations?

Spite and more versatility in terms of what the spec itself can do and what the class can do.

WW is fun and I like the theme.
I only like playing Sin for Rogues and I’m not really a fan of combo points.
I love the DH play style, but I don’t like having to play a Blood Elf. If I could be an Orc DH I’d main a DH forever.

DH being looked to elves is a real turn off for me. Monk seems like a lot of fun during single target DPS, but multi-target seems odd to me.

I recently bosted a survival hunter to play over outlaw & havoc and all I plan to do is M+.
The most interesting thing to me about a DH isn’t even how the class plays it’s just how it mechanically interacts with bosses and trash using blade dance. PvP isn’t much better with Mana rifts.
Overall it’s just very blan in comparison to other specs I had some interest in.

Do you like survival more than WW?
In legion I didn’t but I enjoyed it as an alt still. I don’t know how it fully plays with latent poison yet.

Spread targets are a no-go, but cleave and AoE isn’t that bad. It just takes practice like everything else. Whirling dragon punch, Fists of fury, and spinning crane kick. Have SEF clones up to help spread mark of the crane and do crazy AoE damage with 5 stacks. Also having the Dance of Chi-ji trait for AoE is great (it gives a free SCK). I think Monk AoE is a blast even though it’s somewhat annoying to setup.
I just started leveling my 110 Hunter again to play survival this morning! I’ve been having a lot of fun so far.

I enjoy the ability to play all 3 roles. Plus I really enjoy the monk theme. Also were the least played class, so theres a certain pleasure i get from outplaying DH’s and rouges.
I’ve invested over 2500+ hours into this toon since legion, i aint going to give her up.

I have mained all three at different times and the answer is really simple. WW has a much, much better “rotation” and is, therefore, much more fun and engaging to play over the long haul. Rogue is much slower and DHer is terribly boring.
That’s why folks choose monk over DHer or Rogue.

My rotation isn’t press button 1 to build, press button 2 to spend. It feels relatively flowing and natural. My tank spec feels like a tank instead of playing tank hit and run… Finally, I think monks are thematically cooler than DH’s.
As for rogues, I like having other roles available.

Personally, DH is so boring. I leveled mine up and it was far from fun. As for rogue, Im just not great at it. I imagine if that I got good at rogue, I would probably still not enjoy it much (but definitely more than DH). WW is just fun, although I hate that blizz hates us for some reason.

Monk has more tools and cooldowns than dh. Maybe about even with rogue considering legsweep isnt as good as kidney. You have diffuse magic, tiger lust, a spammable heal, disarm, rop. And the list goes on. Dh and rogue have some of those things but all in all monk has a really nice toolkit.

I am a Martial Artiest in RL and own a chain of dojos.
So for me, it is the class that 100% speaks to me. Even if the animations are completely off. (looking at you Leg sweep that is animated as a jumping 360deg hook kick aka not a sweep at all in any imagination)
I mained a rogue until Monks dropped in MoP. And I only mained a rogue because it was the only class to kick.

Your reason for playing is really interesting. Thank you for sharing.
I’m a martial artist in real life as well, dabbled in several disciplines and majored in one. On top of that my favorite genre growing up is Wuxia (Chinese kung fu fantasy). The class in principle speak to me but the play style is pretty trash and unappealing for the most part. FoF feels, sounds AND looks awful, SCK is meh, RSK is impactful and swift so I think that’s considered good, blackout kick looks good but feels like striking with a pillow…
I hate Earth, Wind and Fire splits with a passion and WDP could really use a proper animation update. FSK sounds and looks good but feels off.
In summary, outside of RSK and Tiger Palm nothing feels bone-crunching.

Agree and brewmaster is the worst offender, no martial arts hand to hand at all, and staff animations look like a kid with a baseball bat not a trained martial artist. Seriously lacking in any animations that are from actual martial arts.
