We have no tank, 3 heals, a mage and a moonkin druid who says he’s specced for Moonfire spam
Unfortunately all of the role declaration functionality in the client has been removed, so any attempt by Blizzard to do that will result in the exact same cluster-fiasco as it did back then.
Thank you for taking the time to explain that very thoroughly and concisely, highly appreciated.
Your wording of the issues with the LFG debacle would have been fantastic during it, but I understand how hard it can be to have your voice heard when such drama is ongoing.
I can see how exploitable the early API would have been if they allowed unrestricted use of conditionals ( like IF, WHILE etc ) and the design changes were obviously needed. But… a lot of the people demanding certain aspects of the API remain unchanged shows there are people out there wanting to retain some of the exploit-ability available.
We have an opportunity here as Classic players to relive Original without the numerous broken addon’s popping up, I would expect Blizzard use that knowledge and experience to craft the API to work as intended but without being too restrictive.
As far as the general perception of the LFG addon goes, I can agree there has been some misunderstanding of the impact that it would have, but both sides have done that. Cross-realming was certainly the “line” that was crossed ( unintended pun ) that brought about a shift in social aspects, but LFG was the first stepping stone down that road. People have to understand that adding LFG functionality IS going to anger some because its a slippery slope issue.
Sorry, just had a phone call from an elderly house sitter who has injured herself, I need to go, but will continue this later.
whoa, hope everything is ok…
I’d responded on an earlier thread about it, but the streamer panic ones, it just wasn’t worth dealing with the responses. Ultimately that tool was fairly harmless, but I understand why people don’t like it, and it had the potential to be endemic. However, the idea that Blizzard would take steps instead of letting the community ensure that the addon died on the vine, raises a whole lot of other questions.
So I guess it’s another “Thanks for destroying Classic, Streamers” experience.
I think you have a valid question in your OP and unfortunately will not likely get an answer before launch.
Sadly, I think this whole thread was continually derailed by the contentious LFG addon excitement.
I hope Blizzard is able to make API changes that do not cripple addons that help facilitate RP, something definitely in the spirit of Vanilla.
Yup so you can’t see how someone who has seen and debated that topic to death would be even a little bit riled up?
Yes. They told their followers to spam the forums non stop until blizz relents.
This was done by both sides to be fair. In fact this thread here. My first reply was commenting on the attacks on OP. It is a simple legit question. What else is being affected when LFG is limited. That turned into a few of you claiming “you’re just trying to save LFG.” Again. I didn’t even download the addon until 2 days ago. I had no intentions of using it.
I didn’t even see OP post in any of those threads(which yea the spam was flying and I could have missed it) yet some are absolutely positive her intentions are to get LFG back.
Here’s the kicker about that. It’s only being limited. It’s not being removed. We just want to know what else it’s going to affect.
Lol. When did this change? Its been like this since the old forums. I do agree with you on this but let’s not pretend either side is innocent in this discussion either.
There’s 3 sides to every story. Your side. My side. And then what really happened.
The way i see it. That addon was available since beta. No issues. Streamers makes a video.(Using the retail version i might add) and the natives lost their minds.
Yea you might want to read that again. I pointed out some posters were berating her for asking a simple question that a lot of us want to know the answer to. What I got was you telling me im trying to save LFG and now you’re trying to dismiss me because you feel I threw a tantrum yesterday.
Well that’s the same kind of hypocrisy I was carrying on about in my “tantrum”. I have just as much right to post in any thread that I so choose as anyone else here does.
In fact some tried running me off when the forums first opened. Here I am. Still on the same avatar and still posting my piece. I don’t bandwagon and i don’t jump because a streamer said so. I will speak my piece and if it’s not a popular opinion so be it.
Now while were on this topic. All you’ve done is derail it and made it about me.
Addons were very much in Vanilla and should remain. Those trying to force others to play their way should go back to retail where that kind of thing is built right into the game.
All I want to know is what else this limit on LFG is going to affect. If it affects too much expect another crap storm. I might even break out some alts for that one.
I gotta get down on this forum meta of alt hopping.
Come classic we get 50 more avatars to use on the forums. I’m sure that’s going to help the forum community. /s lol.
Anyways. The topic is what else gets broken trying to limit this LFG addon. Hopefully it’s not much or there’s work around to maintain other addons functionality.
There’s a lot of us who love addons because we came from games where they were not allowed.
Customizing your UI the way you want it. Makes it your game. Which gives you even more personal attachment to it.
People were saying that. The mob was not trying to hear it and all they heard was a “tantrum cuz muh LFG”.
This mob mentality driven by anonymous social media, orchestrated by influencers’ misinformation, and encouraged by the devs, mirrors the real world political landscape to a tee!
Mass hysteria driven by ignorance and fear is a thing. Look up the reading of War of the Worlds. My gawd what would happen if something like that took hold on Twitter. Oh wait…Lol.
It’s funny now that it’s died down a bit and people are putting thought into it, some of you are realizing exactly what is happening. Hey at least streamers/youtubers made some bank. There’s a bright side. Lol.
Using an auto fill with no role designation to a group that needs synergy? Who willingly/knowingly does that? It’s why no one used blizz’s own tool that was available in Vanilla and spammed trade.
Only thing it’s really useful for is massive wpvp groups. Even then. You’re still going to need some healers! 39 dps instantly get invited. Lol.
Yet the mob rolled right over these lessons (basically accepted facts) taught in Vanilla!
This has been a nice lesson in social dynamics. Hope the gov’t got some good data. Lol.
Is the response the author of TotalRP got back from their Blizzard contact. Nothing specific as to what specific API changes are being made , this tweet merely gives us some clues as to what their focus will be.
I would like to note here that threat and DPS meters primarily rely on group or raid channels which are out of the scope of the coming changes. So those should be fine.
Yeah, which makes the concern greater.
and their target is public channels and global exchange of informations.
This is the problem with the idea. Personally, I would have been happy with a wide group of people saying “Do not use this” and “I will boycott grouping with anyone using this”, and it would have died from lack of use. That’s how these sort of addons should be managed. A large campaign of people saying “No, we don’t want them, do not use them, and you will be affected if you do.”
Crying to Blizzard and demanding that they burn whole sections of the API interface because the community has no impulse control, is going to do far more damage to the game than any single Addon ever could.
Cheers for the concern, she had a fall and broke her wrist, surgery today to plate it.
Just a point to note - i was one who wasnt influenced by social media, i carefully considered the impacts of having a powerful LFG tool and what it would bring tomthe game. I am horrified at the idea of refail tourists bringing thier habitual disregard for socialisation with a realm community into Classic and thats the only reason i spoke out against the LFG addon that was the current topic in the forum that day. Not everyone is a streamer or social media junkie, i dont even have a facebook account for example.
I hope you kidding here, either that or you are incredibly niave. You only have to look at refail to understand how poor in general people are at managing anything themselves.
While i respect that mods were a part of Original, Refail and now Classic, we have the chance to have Classic become WoW 3.0. Some changes to what mods are useable is required or were going to see massive issues because of the differences in players.
Again, this has been typed from my pad, so please excuse the bluntness and poor wording, i mean no offence and actually enjoy the conversation, not the heated exchanges where people insert thier own assumptions.
Did you reply to any of the posts that linked videos? Did you watch said videos? If the answer is yes to either of those questions, then you were indeed influenced by social media.
Wait. What? A lot of the talk about classic centers around the community policing itself, dealing with community problems, and engaging the community. Not having blizz put up so many guard rails that everyone plays the same railed adventure.
That’s the difference in Vanilla design philosophy to BFA design philosophy.
The difference in players can be used as an arguement to change almost every single thing about the game.
AQ war effort? We know what to stockpile. Class balance? We know what not to play if we want to do certain things optimally. Honor grind? We know how to push that grind. The list goes on. Prior knowledge can not be helped unless there are massive changes to the game.
Player mentality can not be changed. Unless changes are made or the community flat out decides to not play that way. Just like Elo is suggesting.
Player choice is one of the most important things about classic returning. The more people push for blizz to limit those choices, both good and bad. The more it’s not classic.
Oh no. You don’t get a pass. You’re throwing a tantrum. Lol. That’s a joke. I like jokes.
I enjoy them too but as you know bluntness can be percieved in many ways. I prefer bluntness over wishy washy any day.
