What is your WoW unpopular opinion?

MoP might’ve been received a lot better if Jinyu and Hozen were added alongside the Pandaren. It wouldn’t have been just the “Kung Fu Panda” expansion.

I agree and it would be nice if the specs offered build diversity to accommodate this. It should be like this:
0% optimal DPS → 100% optimal DPS

------------------------o|ooo— (Easiest build output range)
---------------------oooo|oo-- (Medium)
--------------ooooooooo|o-- (Hard)
---------ooooooooooooo|- (Hardest)

Where the lowest skill on whichever build you pick gets you to the left of the o’s and the highest skill gets you to the right of the o’s. Simply put, more risk, more reward. And if someone does not play the build well, if it’s an easy build, they should do about the same dps. Kind of like a default dps. Then if they play a very hard build and do well, they should do even better, and if they play poorly, they should do worse. The average player who is playing at the right skill level should get the vertical bars.

I hope the formatting works lol

Fishing is the most important single part of any MMO world experience.

It doesn’t make or break a game on its own, but I think it’s actually a really challenging test of a dev team’s ability to create ambiance, comfort and routine just being in the world.

(alas, I recently discovered that in the game I often point to as having great fishing, less than 2% of players maxed out their fishing skill, so I feel the need to concede that it does indeed appear to be an unpopular opinion)

I have a couple:

  1. This game is still fun to this day, the people that offer up no criticism on how to “fix” it need to stop there sub

  2. Goblins should have been part of a 3rd, neutral faction

  3. Race passives should be buffed

  4. Versatility shouldn’t be a stat

  5. This game doesn’t need realistic graphics. If that happens it wouldn’t stand out and thus look like a generic Korean mmo (no offense to Korea)

  6. every class for every race

And

  1. People of the “GOGOGO! PILLPULLPULLPULLPULL…PULL EVERYTHING” crowd are need to get punished for pulling HUUUUUGE packs.

Flying should have never been added to the Old World. Quel’thalas wasn’t added to the Old World map and adding Quel’thalas to the Old World map is the only thing that would make the time and work worth it.

I wish Mythic+ was never brought into the game.

I almost feel like flying shouldn’t have been added anywhere.
As soon as you can fly, you’re no longer participating in the world.
The shape of the land doesn’t matter.
Being able to see everything from a million miles up ruins the impression a lot of scenes and set pieces could otherwise give you.

I still remember my first time approaching Blackrock Mountain on food from the Burning Steppes. Going up that path towards the gates. Going inside and seeing the chains and statues and lava. It was intimidating.

BFA and Shadowlands win a trophy for most grindiest expansions.

I’ll take the bait.

  1. Why would you fly “a million miles up?”
  2. You’re doing it wrong.
  3. Many things in WoW can only be seen from the air, like Aerie Peak, skeletons on almost every continent, and many zones are works of art from a sky perspective like Jade Forest, Ardenweald, Uldum, Boralus, Valdrakken, the entirety of the exterior of ICC…

And lucky you. Flying isn’t mandatory, and Classic exists.

I grew up on runescape and the fishing was always very relaxing for me. The FFXIV fishing is excellent too. Something about MMO fishing is really nice.

Here’s another one of my very hot takes:
Classic was a mistake. Community fragmentation and nostalgia dependency are horrible solutions. We need a WoW 2 that will force-replace all the current versions, transfer everyone’s characters and collections with graphical and combat updates, horizontal progression, a dynamic world; and be cheaper. I made a post about it this week. I think it would not just “save WoW” but utterly destroy our competition for good. The Return of the King.

Buff Demon Hunters … after allowing them to fly.

Agree with most of these (except for #6), but especially the “gogogo” mentality. That’s why I’ve shied away from dungeons for the most part since BFA. Timewalking and leveling dungeons should not be treated like M+.

Vanilla wasn’t that good and it only got popular because it was slightly more player friendly than the other MMOs at the time. It still wasn’t good and I think Blizzard just caught lightning in a bottle and got lucky

People waxing nostalgic for it don’t realize they aren’t going to catch the same feel of wonder like last time.

As a certain cartoon horse once said:

“Red flags look like regular flags when you have rose colored glasses on.”

Despite all the lost potential, WoD is a good xpac. Blizzard did it dirty cutting it short for Legion.

Giving the Alliance some internal conflict for once, or at least the aggressors in a faction conflict — Would be a HUGE breath of fresh air.

I thought we were finally getting it in BFA since when someone asked @ the Q&A that they were sick of Horde being the bad guys in every single confliction, will it be the same BS or different – and Blizz responded: “It’ll be morally grey folks!”

Well …

That turned out to be a lie.
