My first Real mmo was Everquest. Running from orcs screaming “Train to lift” in Kelethin, or “Dvinn to zone!” in the crushbone orc zone just above it. Learning languages on the boats between lands, or using my ebil gnome necromancer to charm a specter in the oasis then Feign death and watch the high level undead just shred people at the Oasis docs…
Final Fantasy 11. It was hard, couldn’t solo past level 12 unless you were a Red Mage or Beast Master. I got stuck at level 50, couldn’t do the limit break quest. It was really miserable, I would not go back to it. Then WoW came out a year after.
I did enjoy being a Dragoon/Ninja, it was a terrible combo that did piss poor damage, but I got a Dragon Pet and Dual Wield.
FFXIV, which I still play alongisde WoW. I’ve been playing FFXIV since 2013. At the tail end of WoD, I decided to try WoW, had fun and decided to stick around. Now, I alternate between the two games.
Final Fantasy XI. Now that was an MMO! So many fond memories of it in its peak. I made a great friend within that game and sadly lost touch with her. I log in every now and then and hope to see her online.
I had someone want to take me into the wilderness, even gave me some armor “wear this, it’s better then your armor” (I don’t think it was, but wasn’t sure), but I knew how far we had to go in for him to be able to attack me, and backed out when he wanted to go to that level. Pretty sure I sold the armor to a vendor somewhere.
Technically Ragnarok online but I didn’t do much and it was incredibly short lived. Starwars Galaxies/SWG however was my jam.
Even going back and playing the private server to play for a bit was incredibly fun but it clearly wasn’t the same but it proves to myself that liking the old playstle of old MMORPGs for me isn’t rose colored classes but actual enjoyment.
