Thanks. It usually works when I post it, not sure why it didn’t this time.
Laughing my you know what off…hahaha…
I love all kitties. All kitties need love and support : D But honestly, I dunno. All my life the cats I have had have come from shelters or strays. You shouldn’t ever buy a pet. So many need help.
Yeah, my mom many years ago rescued a cat he came off the streets when the mother was having him. He lived to be 13.
THIS THIS THIS!
I volunteer at a cat rescue. We adopt out hundreds of kittens every year. We have cuddler volunteers who socialize them and we TNR the moms who can’t be adopted out.
I’ve had a female calico, female tuxedo(current and last pet I will have), and male tabby.
I miss my calico. She was so sweet. My tuxedo is the biggest case of bipolar I’ve ever seen.
Japanese Bobtail’s are the bestest kitties!
Tux kitties are the best dressed. :3 And I am very sorry to hear that… But never let your love end, if they could think and talk like us they would want your love and affections to keep going for as much as you can.
Somali is my favorite, they are extremely intelligent and energetic floofs
Russian blue and Oriental
All of our cats have been strays that have shown up at the house and informed us that we are now their humans. That’s my only qualification for a favorite breed.
Sphynx! I am owned by three Sphynx cats. They are the sweetest, most loving cats ever (unlike what you see in movies and TV). They are almost dog-like in that they follow their humans everywhere, are totally devoted to their humans, and love playing fetch. They are the best cats ever!
Yeah I will definitely get more. I work in IT and one my customers is a vet - she has a TINY kitten atm that was handed inafter being abandoned and found suffering from, what appears to be, poisoning from too strong flea chemicals for it’s size.
I also have another black and white cat Darlene - she’s smol and chatty but tough as nails - she got a mycoplasma infection in her blood that was destroying her red blood cells faster than she could make them. Normal cats have 30% red blood cells, 24% is anemic, sub 20 is dangerous, 15 and below is critical and almost always fatal - hers was 6%.
I came home one day and she was just laying there limp crying, disoriented, couldn’t stand, was very obviously confused but still sort me out for help so I knew she wasn’t ready to give up. She was perfectly fine, eating and running around the day before but apaprently thats common and cats will act normal until they suddenly just crash.
She spent 2 days in a 100% oxygen tank to make the most of what little red blood cells she had which alleviated her suffering for the interim - the vet was convinced she wouldnt make the afternoon much less the weekend and stayed with her all weekend to keep an eye on her and she somehow made it. Super strong antibiotics, prednisone liquid and a blood transfusion later and she made a full recovery as if nothing happened.
My vet is the Doctor House of vets for sure because blood transfusion from a dog? I had no idea that was even a thing and neither did most vets apparently - its a fairly new treatment as cats need to be type matched like people for antibodies and finding a donor cat is HARD as there is no such thing as a vet blood bank. Cats, however, have no antibodies to dog blood and while their bodies develop the antibodies and destroy the donation in 7 days vs the 14 days for a cat donation (and also means they can only ever get it once) it allows for immediate emergency transfusion from any random dog.
Reputable breeders treat all their cats well. Of course there are backyard breeders that do horrible things, that’s why people need to do their research. We have one rescue Sphynx and our others are from breeders. We can’t have furred cats because my husband is allergic to them, and Sphynx don’t often end up in rescues.
We did our research, found a reputable breeder that treats all her cats as family members, has a large cattery that is well-maintained and spotless, who doesn’t cage her cats at all, who tests for genetic diseases and does regular (yearly) heart health scans of all her breeding cats, and who has a five year health guarantee for all her kitttens.
If their were more Sphynx in rescues, we would adopt more often. But I love cats, my husband is allergic to furred cats, and by having Sphynx (he isn’t allergic to Sphynx) we get to have cats and my husband isn’t constantly miserable from allergies.
There are plenty of horrible backyard breeders, but there are also lots of wonderful, reputatable breeders who only want to improve a certain breed and ensure that the breed survives.
I do agree that some breeds have been bred for unhealthy traits (Persian cats for instance), or “designer” breeds like dwelfs where people just seem to smush a bunch of different breed traits together to get something new. But for naturally occurring breeds (the first Sphynx was a hairless cat found in Toronto of all places) responsible breeders do their best to ensure healthy, happy cats.
Mixed breed cats are my favourites. I’ve never owned a purebred. Closest I have had is my 1 kitty I currently have who is 1/2 Mainecoon 1/2 mixed breed. Purebred cats seem to have too many health issues. Mixed breeds have always been healthy for me. My cats have lived to 15+, 2 of them making it to almost 21.
I’ve always wanted a Bengal cat, but I would never pay thousands of dollars just for a full breed.
My Cat’s name is Mouse…lol…yes I named her Mouse…due to her size when I found her abandoned next to my house she was about the size of a mouse…I had to bottle fed her for first two weeks…she is 15 yrs old this year.
There are several hairless breeds of cats (bald ones). There are Sphynx, Don Sphynx, Donskoy, Ukrainian Levkoy, and Peterbald.
Sphynx are adorable.
If you are talking about Sphynx, then yes (there are several breeds of hairless cats). Sphynx feel like velour, velvet, or a warm peach. They have very fine, down hairs, and more fur on their nose and ears, and some on their tails and paws. They are SO soft, people are very surprised when they meet ours. They tend to charm everyone they meet, even non-cat people.
So sorry for your loss. We lost our eldest Sphynx, Dragonheart, to kidney failure on January 31, so I feel your pain. He was a tuxedo Sphynx and the best boy
