What is the Technical Reason Trolls Can't Properly Wear Boots?

I understand with Tauren, Draenei and Worgen that the feet, and even legs, are oddly-shaped which would make fitting feet-shaped boots around them impossible, but like, Trolls literally have normal-shaped feet, just with two toes. Is there a reason for the inability to fit my foot into a boot?

It isn’t that you can’t. It is that it feels bad so you won’t.

Trolls have been shoeless since Warcraft 2.

We do not have normally shaped feet. They’re big, flat, and we’re got a claw toe on the back. Those soles are tough, we don’t need shoes down there, just some ankle protection!

The better part is wondering if all trolls have tear-away pants, because how do you fit your feet down the leggings? Kilts all the way!

As the great Zul’jin once said…

“Shoes? What are those? What kind of monster wear little prisons on their feet? I’m gonna tell my brothers to never wear them! Ever!” - Zul’jin from Heroes of the Storm.

You can thank Zul’jin for outlawing shoes for Trolls.

Griftah suckered all of the trolls into giving him their shoes.

You don’t wear shoes for the same reason your armor isn’t made out of old newspaper. Troll feet are already the strongest material in existence, putting shoes over them would be pointless.
In the burning depths of Molten Core, troll feet were bare.
In the freezing wastes of Northrend, troll feet were bare.
In the jagged, fel-scarred canyons of Argus, troll feet were bare.
And in all that time, I’ve found and replaced more pairs of shoes than I can even begin to count!

So you’re saying that we should forge armor out of Troll feet?

Trolls’ feet are actually supposed to look like a fleshy raptor talon, with a backwards pointing toe that can grasp around a branch in the same manner as an eagle or falcon. The early art shows as much, and makes sense in their dinosaur (bird ancestors) environment.

I think vanilla technical limitations made them decide to just go with a heel toenail, but that isn’t really an accurate depiction.
