MOP won’t even do as well as Cata and will be dead in 2 months. The only expansion after WOTLK that people are actually enthusiastic about is LEGION. They should just skip MOP and especially WOD and go straight into LEGION.
You have a two products, both are part of your subscription service. One of them has micro transactions and one does not. Which one do you prioritize?
Ive tried like 20 times since the announcement to get into Cata/MOP.
I log in… spend 5 minutes messing around and then I log out.
I just have zero interest in that version of the game

good chance the next project doesnt use most of what SoD did. They built the tools and pipelines to make the next project.
SoD itself was largely a clown fiesta with pet classes just one shotting people out in the world. Some cool raid stuff was added, the rune system was neato, etc. But it felt like a 14yr old made a private server in 2012 with a little but of polish on it. But it really put the tools together to do almost anything with the classic client, so theyre either doing one of three things. A) a new season B) actual classic + (a more balanced, refined version of SoD with more unfinished things in the world completed or C) losing their job or being moved to something else.
Posting monthly=monetized. It’s very simple. I have no interest in the conspiracy theories you may have from that point.
I was naive once too. They are going to apply resources to the product that will generate more money. Are they not teaching basic economics anymore? You can babble all you want, the fact is that they can sell product on top of the monthly sub with MOP. They are in this to make money, not to provide you with enjoyment.

Classic population verifiably lowered with TBC classic. Warcraftlogs reported on this during TBC, noting increased population from the final phase of Vanilla into 2.0, but overall decreased population by 2.1.
They need to start from scratch to bring back the population. And they might be able to keep a lot of people around this time if they do things correctly. The population has been extremely balanced from phase 4-8 but phase 3 and gatekeeping level 60 for so long decimated the population.
I personally think them ending sod is a huge mistake. They have a catalyst for classic plus right in front of them. Instead of making players start over just delevop classic+ over top of sod so at least players have their stuff when they go back over. I rlly dont feel like having to regoget my zulian tiger

The engine that sod is built is bad, SoD only uses one cpu core causes alot of lag
I’m willing to have a conversation about microtransactions, but the game is monetized. Full stop. Insisting it isn’t doesn’t make your argument stronger, it just makes you look desperate.
It’s not really though.
I’ve played sod since p1, I have only spent my $15 sub on sod. I was already paying this $15 since I play classic and retail. Blizz got no money out of money for sod they weren’t getting already.
I tried cata during phase 3 of sod. I bought multiple wow tokens, a paid character boost, and the mop premium pack with the boost and paid mount. And this is in addition to my $15 sub.
It’s obvious why they’re doing the free mop boost for sod players. Micro transactions are the future of monetizing gaming. Without them, the game will never get the dev support it needs.
Blizz made more in 2 months from reskinning the Dino ah mount in retail and selling it for a limited time for $90 than they did from people’s sub money exclusively playing sod. Sod required months of work and a team of devs. The $90 ah Dino mount reskin took 1 person less than an hour.
I am just so jaded at this point I don’t even think about the sub cost anymore. I do think reason sod is not going forward and the cash shop enabled projects are is because of the cash shop.
