What is the problem with BGB and how to fix it?

What in your opinion are the problems with BGB and what do you think that needs to change?

I think MMR and faction balance are huge problems, but fixing MMR will fix many other problems in the run. I think 10-20 rating per win is nothing, and that’s the amount you get even when you are under 1600, and you lose the same rating when you lose. It just feels like it’s forever stuck. I think the amount of rating gained should be similar to the one we have in Solo Shuffle.

BGB could be the most popular game style if they just fixed it.

Rating advancement is too slow. If you have a specific goal, such as 1800 elite set, you’d be better off in Shuffle.

I still think it’s better than randoms though. They just need to make it so that each and every match feels impactful.

It can be really awesome gameplay. For maps where objectives are very spread out(not talking about flag carrying maps), it might be ok if we did 1healer 7dps or 1 healer 6 dps 1 tank, just to speed up the queues if there is a healer shortage at the time. Finding 2 healers must be easier than finding 4.

By all means, use MMR for matchmaking, but I would implement completely static amounts of rating gained or lost regardless of MMR. No more 0 CR gained from a win. Always gain a tad more for a win than you lose from a loss. Maybe 50 per win 40per loss. If you keep a 50/50 win loss ratio you climb until your enemies are beyond your skill to progress more, like it should have always been. Rating/MMR functionality doesn’t need to be so complicated it cant work. K.I.S.S.

I personally wish the mode was gatted from the game as it currently shows just how out of touch and lost the team working on pvp are.

  1. Lack of inflation. The climb this season was significantly worse than I’ve ever experienced and has left me burned. AWC exists for weirdos who wanna play this game like their livelihoods are on the line. Make inflation to Df S1 values and be done with it.
  2. Terrible balancing. Healers: No MW/Pres/Priest? GG go next.
  3. MMR based earning system is beyond trash. It actively screws you over since as the search goes on they just lob in 1500 players who are losing twice as many games as they win. I’d happily sit hour long ques to not match with these people and be griefed.

This mode is the prime example of bad development and wasted resources. Hope it’s fixed someday.

I’d just like to drop in on this specifically and point out how bad it feels wanting to play a Hpal in BGB but knowing i’ll just be a detriment to the team. 0 mobility and i cant use my cooldowns to save flag carriers.

Somethings gotta change on that.

The ONLY viable change is blizzard hiring devs that actually play the mode actively at a decently high level. I don’t see any other recourse given these have been prominent issues for a while and we’ve gotten radio silence.

I really cant be convinced they play our little mini game at all.

The upcoming patch notes are a bad sign for pvp as a whole. I read them and just remind myself the only mode the devs play is PVE

Aside from the singular dev in hey im mvp who’s got an old old old r1 title that doesn’t really play at all anymore. We’re living in hard times.

I dont even want them to be r1 players. I just need them to be actual PVP players.

I’d rather have a team of 1800-2200 players actively working to make PVP good, than two burnouts who are stuck on PVP when they need a coffee break. No one takes the mode seriously, hell even PVP’ers dont take it seriously.

Its really disheartening.

The BGB rating is actually hyperinflated, what more can Blizz do? They can’t please everyone. If you know the basics of the BGB maps, an average pvp player should be able to reach 2200.

BGB is a lot easier than arena to learn, but please don’t take BGB for granted, it isn’t RBG or arena. Gladiator or Hero of the Alliance/Horde titles don’t guarantee a high win rate in Blitz. You’ll need to watch some tutorial videos.

I saw an R1 Gladiator kill the enemy crystal carrier near their portal and then run back to our side to cap, then we lost by 148x to 1500. Obviously he didn’t know he could cap the crytal at either portal. He then blamed the team for low DPS. While he did deal impressive DPS and was an amazing pvp player, he could have saved the day by capping it immediately after he grabbed the crystal.

Let’s be honest, how many mistakes have you made in BGB? I’d say in about 10% of the games I’ve played, my mistakes cost my team a win.

I don’t really agree with that because in BGB you’re not playing alone. You can win alone if the enemy team has zero idea of what they’re doing. Plus the amount of rating gained makes it very slow to advance in BGB. I think it was easier in the first weeks of S1.

I think the biggest issue with Blitz right now is the rating gains become so lean after 1600. In may be wrong, but it seems the max you are able to get after that is like 24 points/win if you are wining well above your MMR.

It’s true, so if you’re in a low MMR BG, you’ll need to solo carry your team a few games to get yourself past 1700. For example, DKs should have a very high win rate in Eye of the Storm. When your team is struggling in EOTS, you can single-handedly turn the game around and secure a comeback win for your team, this works 100% in low MMR bracket. I know it’s easier said than done, I lost a ton of games before hitting 1700 but that’s how it works.

Similarly, in Gilneas, rogues and druids should have high win rates. In Deephaul Ravine, warlocks, monks, and DHs are VIP.

In low MMR brackets, I have seen many players, both teammates and opponents, who didn’t know the rules. They were geared and very good at pvp, but they haven’t taken the time to learn how these BGB maps work. If you understand the map mechanics, you can truly make a difference in these brackets. In Arathi Basin and Deepwind Gorge, If you tell people about the built-in timer for all nodes, you’ll have a much better chance of winning. Try it in low MMR games, it works like magic. I didn’t realize in low MMR BGB some people weren’t aware of the timer until a player asked “what the heck is the timer you’re talking about?”

That is something that CAN happen, but often it won’t. I have been playing WoW BGs for 10 years, you can’t win alone unless the circumstances are in your favor. If people from the opposite team know what you’re trying to do you’ll get stomped. Many FC BGs where people don’t even run after the FC and just ignore them, or people who let the enemy team cap a base in the middle of a team fight. These things happen a lot in low MMR. I am used to playing over 2100 cr and started BGB late this season, waiting for the MMR refresh in S2.

FC BGs are my nightmare, my win rate on these maps is ugly. I lost five WSG games in a row when I was at 1650 CR and 2000 MMR. I was dropped back to 1400 MMR games and still only had a 50% win rate. It was a pain in the back… I don’t know how they will rework BGB, but I think it does need a major overhaul.
